The former can indeed be sightly soft, but the latter is a completely new computation and one of the sharpest lenses Leica ever offered.I'm not mate. My one is the earlier model I think and is definitely not sharp especially wide open but it still gives a nice looking picture. Can't say I tried it stopped down but will make a conserted effort to try it on the MM in Japan in a few weeks time.......
