Schrödinger's cat Posted April 19, 2015 Share #1 Posted April 19, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've decided to upgrade my M8. For those you you who have actual personal experience with all three cameras, and given equal condition, would you personally prefer to upgrade to the M240 alone or an M9 plus an additional lens? Don't get too involved in which lens, just one of the mid priced used late model Leica lens. We're not really worrying about cost differences or the M9 sensor issue here. Thanx in advance for your opinions.

pop Posted April 20, 2015 Share #4 Posted April 20, 2015 I have taken the path from M8 to M9 and from there to M (Typ 240). I find the M so much more versatile than the M9, I would not go back under any circumstances.
tobey bilek Posted April 20, 2015 Share #5 Posted April 20, 2015 M240 because of sensor corrosion issue. You will eventually get burned by it. M8 is a great camera and at equal ppi, the M9 image is only 30% larger. 240 is back to some ir contamination and you can not use the uv/ir filters as there is no option in the menu. I love both my 8 and 9, but worry about the sensor which is ok so far. I do not believe there will be a fix. You will be forced into paying to upgrade to then current camera. If you just have to upgrade, go with the 240.

Lenshacker Posted April 20, 2015 Share #7 Posted April 20, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) The M9 handles just like the M8 and is the upgrade to it. Are you going to keep the M8? If so, the M9 shares the same batteries and charger. The M9 is also much less cost than the M240. If you are selling the M8, and have the funds for the M240- it has advantages for increased resolution, liveview, and using a lot of lenses via adapters. I kept the M8, added the M9 over 4 years ago. I am still exploring the potential of the M8.
run23 Posted April 21, 2015 Share #8 Posted April 21, 2015 If you need consistently good ISO above 640 to 1250, go for the M240. Otherwise M9 is still a great camera. Mine is 5+ years old and still going strong. I've beaten the hell out of it and it shows, but it's handled everything I've given it. I would like the extra stop, but I'd rather use the money on another lens.
