peterjcb Posted April 8, 2015 Share #1 Â Posted April 8, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) so I recently purchased a 35 Cron ASPH 6 bit lens from Japan. It is in like new mint condition and as far as I can tell, the images are stunning from the few photos that I have taken so far. There is one catch, I noticed a slight rattle ( it's very slight and barely noticeable) coming from the aperature ring. It seems like there is a little play that I haven't noticed with any other of my Leica lenses. The seller has offered to take back the lens or give me $100 credit for repairs/adjustment. I have no idea what it would cost for a CLA or adjustment to tighten up the aperature ring so it doesn't rattle. Would $100 cover the cost or at least be close? I could live with the little rattle if I knew that I'm not looking a a major flaw. I paid $2100 for the lens so the credit would bring the cost down to an even $2000. menos I M6 Posted April 9, 2015 Share #4 Â Posted April 9, 2015 If it is just for the rattly aperture ring, a qualified local tech could do the adjustment for 100 US (Leica Wetzlar most likely will not in a paid job). If more work is found necessary (change parts, other issues, 100 US would not cover it at all. Â I take it the lens is older than 2 years after purchase so a rest warranty is not in effect? Â Your paid price sounds rather on the high side for this lens. I would have rather bought a lower cost example, figuring the cost for a full CLA or even better bought one after trying in a shop (these lenses are growing on trees actually - nothing hard to find about a standard 35 Summicron ASPH). Â The aperture ring rattle is a very common issue with this lens btw and usually a simple adjustment after disassembling the lens.
peterjcb Posted April 9, 2015 Author Share #5 Â Posted April 9, 2015 thanks for the feedback. I really don't believe that the lens needs a full CLA but was just curious as to what it would cost. It is at worst probably a simple adjustment that could probably be performed by a qualified local service shop if I wanted to persue it. Others seem to have the same issue and I'm not going to obsess about it since the lens performs perfectly and looks brand new. I also didn't pay $3000 for it.
