bill Posted May 24, 2007 Share #101 Posted May 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) A plea from someone who is interested in this topic but doesn't want to waste large amounts of their life scrolling up and down... PLEASE USE THE QUOTE BUTTON SENSIBLY. It adds nothing to the debate to blindly replicate a post in it's entirety when you are only commenting on a small element of what has been said. It is even more irritating when you are quoting the post immediately above your own. Sheesh. Regards, Bill
Advertisement Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Hi bill, Take a look here Summicron 75mm versus CV 75mm-Sean Reid's new review. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
gesper Posted May 25, 2007 Share #102 Posted May 25, 2007 In my view, Sean's reviews are the only ones that evaluate lenses the way I would if I had access to a wide variety and was able to make a choice. I trust what he says, and just received today a CV 75/2.5 based on his review. I also have a CV 15 and CV25 based on earlier reviews. Agree with everyone that a subscription to Sean is the best bargain in photography (especially Leica photography).
LichMD Posted May 25, 2007 Share #103 Posted May 25, 2007 Sean's reviews fill a huge need, for the amateur and pro alike, in answering the question of how equipment will behave. All my lens purchases have been influenced by reviews on his site and they've all been great lenses. Money well spent and very well written reviews, with hard, practical information. Thanks Sean. sean_reid Posted May 25, 2007 Share #104 Posted May 25, 2007 Thanks very much for the comments on my reviews. They're great to see. Cheers, Sean (a.k.a. rvaubel Posted May 25, 2007 Share #105 Posted May 25, 2007 Sean, One thing that I would like to see in your article, is a picture of the lens(s) being reviewed. Especially, comparision photos showing relative size, would be most helpful. The physical size is often a determining factor in my choice of lenses. It would also satisfy a certain lens lust need. Joe Mondello Posted May 25, 2007 Share #107 Posted May 25, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes, you're right. I did get a WATE picture in the last one but I've got to start doing pictures of the full cast. Cheers, Sean Even more than simply pictures of the individual lenses (like the single image of the WATE in Sean's review), what I'd like to see is their *relative* sizes so the group of lenses sitting next to each other like this shot from Stephen Gandy's CameraQuest site would be most helpful . . . rvaubel Posted May 25, 2007 Share #108 Posted May 25, 2007 Yes, you're right. I did get a WATE picture in the last one but I've got to start doing pictures of the full cast. Cheers, Sean And I did appreciate that picture of the WATE. In fact that picture reminded me of the lens picture deficiency. I think most of us spend a lot of time scouring the internet for pictures of our next object of desire. By having all the pictures of rangefinder lenses on one site will save time. BTW, let me add my song to the chorus of praises for your site. I use to be a fan of MTF charts and the like, but have realized the validity and practicality of your approach. The proof is in the puddin' and the puddin' is the pictures. Rex

kidigital Posted May 25, 2007 Share #112 Posted May 25, 2007 I, for one, would love to see a time lapse photography film short of Guy's closet. With all the coming and going of lenses, it could be quite entertaining. Of course, with the advent of the M8, there are quite a few of us who could be subjects for the same sort of treatment ... or some kind of treatment. Would that be useful? Cheers, Sean
Guest guy_mancuso Posted May 25, 2007 Share #114 Posted May 25, 2007 You sent it back , hell should have bought more time with it. LOL i will take a shot with the adapter and such this morning, last day of school getting the kids OUTTA here

mikeadams Posted May 25, 2007 Share #116 Posted May 25, 2007 Sean, I have ordered from leica the 39mm filter for my Summicron 35 ASPH, and I'm wondering if it screws inside the hood of the CV 15. It appears to be threaded. This is graduation weekend for my students, and I was testing the CV15, shooting my black graduation gown in various outside light sources like the university stadium. It's too bad, but I will be in a sea of 8000 black gowns and after my tests I realized that sadly they will all be magenta/purple, so I am shooting film with the M7. Better that than the correction. wlaidlaw Posted May 25, 2007 Share #117 Posted May 25, 2007 Here you go, I'll add this to the article. Wow! Is the Distagon the Yamato Battleship of lenses for the M8? I was watching a guy at Lorgues market on Tuesday, carting around a Canon 1DS Mk11 with a lens on it the size of a large vegetable marrow - the sweat was pouring off him in the 30º heat. He was looking rather enviously at my M8 with the 50 Elmar on it. Wilson
sean_reid Posted May 25, 2007 Share #118 Posted May 25, 2007 Here's one more. Its too late to do the 75s but I'll try to include these kinds of pictures in every review from now on. I often plan to do it but then forget. Cheers, Sean Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members!
