So after alot of months of having dust under my LCD screen. My m240's rangefinder was misaligned and the hot shoe stop firing. So I took it into the DC Leica Store. First of all it was a great experience. They took the camera and gave me a reciept and four days later I received an email with confirmation of reciept and a detail "report" of what is wrong.

My question is what is a part number 420-240-230-000 m flex board?

I would email them but they're slow to respond through email. Figured I'd try here first.

Here's what the email says.

Hello Mr. Jones,

We have received an estimate for your Leica camera. They wish to:

clean lcd

adjust r/f

repair synchronization

check and adjust for good working order

420-240-001-041 M leather covering

420-240-230-000 m flex board

I will let you know as soon as the camera is back from repair. It is scheduled to be completed around the second week of April. Please let me know if you have any questions or need anything else.

Best,

My question is what is a part number 420-240-230-000 m flex board?

It is most likely the PCB fitted together with the hot shoe just under the top cover, connected to the main PCB by means of a flex connector.

Likely this was the defective part which caused your hot shoe not working.

Are they going to replace the leather covering?

They almost always replace the covering.

Invariably need to come off to dismantle the camera when anything internal needs fiddling with.

It's a 2 minute job to replace ...... as anyone who has bought customised leather to use instead of the supplied covering will attest ....

Thanks guys. I was curious and that makes a lot of sense.

Luckily everything is under warranty. I purchased my M240 certified pre owned from Popflash.com and happily the warranty transfered. Whew. I had some concerns but Leica NJ's Roxanan Lynch set up my warranty after my purchase. Who knows how much this would have cost without the warranty.
