Advertisement Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Hi A Sfeir, Take a look here Leica Equipment in Hong Kong. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
dugby Posted March 17, 2015 Share #2 Posted March 17, 2015 There are many many Leica Boutiques all over HK and Kowloon and even inside the Airport, check the Leica website for addresses. In Tsim Sha Tsui, within 10-15 mins walk from Star Ferry there are an amazing number of Leica dealers (non Boutique) who carry lots used lenses. But word of caution HK is very humid for much of the year, so you need to consider fungus (not only found in many chinese soups...) Many of these stores have ebay stores, so you can check out their online stock before visiting them Causeway Bay has a couple great shops too. I can't say which store is better, as they all do "deals" but I can say that the first sale of the day is auspicious to them, so you can work that into your buying strategy. Get ready for a head spin, as HK probably has more Leica gear than what I've found collectively in London plus New York plus Tokyo (having visited these cities 20+ times)

Guest jvansmit Posted March 20, 2015 Share #4 Posted March 20, 2015 there are two broad pricing strategies for new Leica gear in HK: - the first is standard list price with a warranty from Schmidt HK ,the local Leica distributor, and also the standard Leica international warranty. - the second is discounted grey market with the standard Leica international warranty but without the local distributor warranty. Some dealers, but not the boutiques, will quote both prices if asked. For example, last year when I bought a new 24mm Summilux; the dealer brought the lens (in an unopened carton) to the counter, and then asked if I wanted a local warranty or just the international one. I can't remember the exact prices but the difference was considerable, around USD 1,000. As an example of grey market pricing, a Leica M-P 240 body is currently HK$46,000 (USD 5,900), and a new 35mm Summicron v5 is HKD18,000 (USD 2,307) at a well known dealer in Tsim Sha Tsui. In this case, the equipment is sourced via a Netherlands dealer. 9 Days Camera, the grey Leica 'specialist' in Tsim Sha Tsui have a great showroom which is worth a visit, and their website will provide an idea of pricing. It's near Tsim Sha Tsui MTR Exit B1/B2.
Winedemonium Posted March 21, 2015 Share #5 Posted March 21, 2015 jvansmit covers the subject well. To answer your question, RANGEFINDER is reputable. I have dealt with them often and purchased several new items from them. It is all low margin grey import stock. He has access to other stock not listed on his website, so if you are looking for something, just enquire. (Same goes for all grey market dealers). My other recommendation is FOTOPIA, run by two enthusiasts with very fair pricing and grading of used gear. They get a lot of very interesting stuff. They are currently listing the M60 set new for $105,000 ($13,550 USD). They always get a lot of the new collector set stuff, but also new items at fair (grey market) prices. 9 Days is an Aladdin's Cave. Your eyes will pop. Prices are sometimes on the high side there in my experience, but the is sometimes room for haggling. They also grade used gear fairly, and have an amazing selection. Your Grey market price are not market price what we HKG people are buying, probably more for tourists or foreigners work in town. 9 days? nicely decorate but not what HKG Leica fans pop in frequently due to the deals are always high. M-P is well under USD5000 now, just bought a M240 2 weeks ago for my friend below $4400.

dadhk Posted March 30, 2015 Share #8 Posted March 30, 2015 Agree the previous comments: Gilbert at Fotopia is completely reliable. See current stock of new and used items at fotopia.com.hk Invariably, the dealers with the small showrooms are going to be more expensive because they have the incremental overhead cost of rent. if you know what you want, contact one of the dealers who are working out of their homes, really for locals only. they will typically be lower in price, although subject to having items in stock, and will meet you wherever needed for you to inspect. Try Fox at +85297573849. Very competitive.
Longboarder9 Posted September 17, 2015 Share #9 Posted September 17, 2015 I know that this is an old string, but I wanted to add my experience. I have zero affiliation to this store. I found them on Ebay and because I live in Japan, shipping was lower than the traditional sources, so I decided to give them a try. Since that initial purchase I've bought (sadly for my bank account) a number of bodies and lenses from this store. I'm an American living in Japan, so I really have no cultural or regional bias. I'm plugging this store because I want to see them survive as long as I'm a need gear. All that being said, I'd like to recommend Fotopia as someone else has done. I've bought new and used. The process is smooth. They're extremely professional. The prices are very good. The serial numbers, material turns out to be genuine and not sketchy black market. Everything is exactly as described. The shipping / processing is fast. The boxes are well packed, and the communication is very good. ( i only speak english and japanese ) I've never sold to them, so I have no idea. I've also never experienced a problem with them, so I don't know if their return/failure/damage support is good. B&H is great, Keh is great, but in Asia, Fotopia is worth your look.
