The one thing that's guaranteed is rain, lots of rain. I have waterproof bags for transport but I wondered if anyone knew any way of increasing the water resistance for the m9. I Don't really want to look at lugging a waterproof dslr with me as I'm touring on a bike. david strachan Posted March 7, 2015 Share #2 Posted March 7, 2015 Enjoy your trip. Have you considered transparent plastic sleeves which go over your gear...camera body and lens?? They come in various sizes, mainly for SLR's but will work anyway with Leica gear. And don't forget a nice big lens hood, will definitely help keeping water off the front lens. Wear a light totally waterproof topcoat (ie plastic), which allows your camera to be tucked away protected between shots. Think about the right length neck-strap to facilitate. If it's raining too heavily, well it's not much good for photography anyway After a days wet shooting leave your gear to dry properly in an air conditioned room. 250swb Posted March 7, 2015 Share #4 Posted March 7, 2015 If you get your camera wet and even a drop of water remains on it do not put it underneath your coat! The cold Irish rain and your warm body will fog up the viewfinder quicker than you can say 'a pint of Guinness please'. It will eventually clear, but it may be hours later. A camera bag is far better to keep it at the outside temperature. Instead take a towel and just dab the worst of the water off. Steve Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

You will enjoy it with your camera. Re wet. Well As long as you are reasonably careful I wouldn't worry - see these post which may be relevant and include my suggestion to remove any moisture which goes into a dry container (bag, box, whatever): http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m-lenses/356374-simple-cheap-fairly-elegant-dry-storage.html & http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/363264-anyone-uses-pelican-1200-their-leica.html I tend to keep my M9 in the neoprene case in a rucksack and carry dry bags for both it and my lenses (also in padded cases) but am wondering about a bit more padding at the moment. Also dry bags are ok but need watching as they can split or rip. Small plastic 'waterproof' cases may be better but rely on structural rigidity and a good clean sealing ring - not all are rigid enough, and the sealing rings can compress or distort too - basically its all common sense to keep a good eye on things - a puddle of water inside a waterproof case or bag is not good news!
