I have used mine in the work studio a few times, but never tethered on a tripod.

I quite like your tripod ! i was playing with a "L" 3 series gitzo at my local camera store yesterday - not sure its worth the money when my old Slik still does a good job.

i do have a few questions about your setup

1. which tripod is that - the spider and legs look very beefy.

2. how is the PW plugged in ? to the PC socket or the Ettl connector ? and where did you get the cable ?

I don't have a studio but I use it with various studio lighting:

- speedlights (old Nikon SB28 s in manual mode.)

- Profoto Acute B2

- Pocketwizard triggers.

- various softboxes and brollies.

The problem with speedlights indoors is the lack of modelling lights, making focussing tricky - exacerbated by not being able to use the VF2 at the same time as a PW in the hotshoe.

I don't use a tripod for studio-type work.

I don't see the need for a special lens for studio-type work; I typically use a lens in the 75-105mm range for portraits, whether lit naturally or with speedlights/studio lights.

.

you get used to knowing what effect they will have without the modelling lights (if you look from where the flash is you will see what it will hit

if you need a little light to focus with - a LED video light (i have a Metz one that runs on 4xAAA) will throw enough light to easily focus, without being overpowering

you could velcro/blutack/gaffa tape/balance it on the speed light if you wanted too.

I did when I had the M240. And I still work with my M9 in the studio.

The favorite lens is the 90mm. Summarit. The second favorite lens the Nikkor 105mm. I use the x2.0 magnifier.

With the Leica I like to use LED and strobe lights together.

The M240 was much easier to work because of its EVF.

Tripod is Gitzo Ocean Systematic Series 5 with ArcaSwiss D4 at the moment the column is not installed. I also have a manfrotto dolly on the legs to move around easier and focus using tripod when needed.

Its a normal PC to Mini mono jack (is a pocketwizard beand) which comes out of the grip so this way i can use EVF when I need it.

the other cable is a Corning fibre optic 10m USB extension, its a ver very reliable cable.

Normally I use a Profoto Pro6 but I have to put ND filter on lens and light to be able to shoot @f/1.4 f/2 with 75Lux until now! http://profoto.com/offcameraflash/the-system/

looking forward to test it tomorrow.

thats why it looks so big, it is big !

Nice tripod, there has been a few times recently that something that size would have been nice

It looks like a Quality cable - i am not a huge fan of the PC socket though - i much prefer the 3.5mm jack as used in the PW - would love to see camera manufacturers start using it for flash sync too.

that new B2 kit looks really nice - but way more than i can justify - especially for just 250ws

it does do some really cool stuff though (ETTL, HSS and is not much bigger or heavier than a pair of speed lights with power packs, but with more power and faster cycle times - i do really like the ability to asymmetrically split the 250ws between heads, instead of Elinchrom's fixed 66/33% split)

would love to know what distance it can do f16@100 ISO through a 60x60cm or 60x100cm softbox though (I may be able to find the cash for it, just for the portability, if it can do f16 a 1.5m+ from the front panel of the softbox)
