An old thread, but I thought I'd update information from my recent investigation. I am thinking of getting a LLL 35mm 8-element collapsable for my IIIb (the collapsable version of this lens goes so well on the Barnack), and it comes with an A42 slip-on hood. There are no filter threads on the lens (but a built-in UV filter) but they've designed the A42 hood to take 43mm filters on the front of the hood - not the ideal place for a filter (want to use B&W filters). I found a YouTube video in Japanese and he showed the 12585 can attach to this lens. I have the 12585 and yes it does unscrew, and my thin 40.5 filters can be dropped in and locked in below the base part hood teeth, the shade part screwed back. So yes, the 12585 takes a filter, THIN 40.5 in my case.

Funny finding... 🙂 probably, when 12585 was designed, Leitz people hadn't at all in their mind the 40,5 filters... maybe they even weren't on market in those years (and anyway Leitz, afaik, never used them... or did they for CL lenses ? I remember that they were officially series 5,5... don't know the thread diameter of CL lenses....)

Diameter CL lens filter is 39mm but thread is 0.75mm in place of 0.5mm of current E39 filters.
