wilfredo Posted February 13, 2015 Share #1 Posted February 13, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) My D2 is dead. Not sure if it's the dreaded sensor problem or both batteries died and won't charge. Any thoughts?
Advertisement Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Hi wilfredo, Take a look here Dead D2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wda Posted February 13, 2015 Share #2 Posted February 13, 2015 My original batteries some ten years old, died recently. I Googled and found a supplier in UK for a generic battery at modest price and I was back in business. My sensor was changed several years ago. So my venerable D2 lives on. Worth a try. However, I would recharge both old batteries and test immediately. The camera should show some sign of life, even if the battery is old. My original batteries just failed to hold their charge for any reasonable period. Check the contacts. If unused for any period they can build up resistance. Good Luck! wilfredo Posted February 13, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted February 13, 2015 Thanks David. I will try this. I'm a fan of the CCD. When this camera performs, it performs! I found some generic replacement batteries from Amazon, here jn tbe U.S. I will give that a try.
stuny Posted February 13, 2015 Share #4 Posted February 13, 2015 Wilfredo - Alternatively I can loan you one to try with your D2.
wilfredo Posted February 14, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted February 14, 2015 Thanks Stuart, I appreciate the offer. I tried what David suggested with a fully charged battery, and the camera showed a half second of life before it died again, so it looks like these batteries are the issue. I already ordered some replacement batteries, they were cheap enough so hopefully they will resurrect my D2. You know me, I believe in resurrection. ;-)
pop Posted February 14, 2015 Share #6 Posted February 14, 2015 You might want to look for the original Panasonic batteries instead of generic ones.
wilfredo Posted February 16, 2015 Author Share #7 Posted February 16, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I got the batteries today from Amazon. They cost $11.34 a piece. I popped one in the camera and it fired up. I'm giving it a full charge. So far so good. Things are looking up! @Philipp: Do you know if Panasonic is still making these batteries? stuny Posted February 16, 2015 Share #8 Posted February 16, 2015 Wilfredo - My D2 batteries are a mix of 3rd party and Leica. Their performance has been indistinguishable for me.
