Guest jvansmit Posted March 6, 2015 Share #241 Posted March 6, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) well., I'd never heard of Lenny Kravitz before now but I do like that shiny black paint. I wonder if Leica would consider supplying one without the brassing?
Advertisement Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Hi Guest jvansmit, Take a look here Lenny Kravitz Edition - cool, pretentious, or hoax?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Paulus Posted March 6, 2015 Share #242 Posted March 6, 2015 I want this edition to sell well and the 50mm special edition lens in quantity to effect lowering this very lens' second hand market price just that much so I can finally afford it as current samples (unbiased) are veeeeeeery lofty priced.I too prefer to wear down my own black paint, The wearing down could be a problem. I own and use the black 50 asph now for a long time and still I cannot see any wearing on the lens.
menos I M6 Posted March 6, 2015 Share #243 Posted March 6, 2015 The wearing down could be a problem. I own and use the black 50 asph now for a long time and still I cannot see any wearing on the lens. You mean the black paint E43 50 Summilux ASPH from some former special edition (this was part of a meter-less Leica MP kit as I remember)? If it is the black paint lens, it will get there, slowly. My E46 black paint pre ASPH is slowly wearing to brass, I guess another 20 years or so …
menos I M6 Posted March 6, 2015 Share #244 Posted March 6, 2015 well., I'd never heard of Lenny Kravitz before now but I do like that shiny black paint. I wonder if Leica would consider supplying one without the brassing? In my opinion, Leica should offer ALL their products in this classic black paint finish for a modest extra charge. Did I really just mention modest and indeed though about an amount in the range of ~20,- EUR for a moment here

colonel Posted March 6, 2015 Share #246 Posted March 6, 2015 Actually I would like a brass lens with no colour paint on it at all. Even a brass body with a hard clear coating would also be cool. But I am just weird
Joshua Lowe Posted March 8, 2015 Share #247 Posted March 8, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I went and saw the Correspondent M-P today at the Leica Store. I like it, save for the brassing. The black paint is nice and I would like to have had that as the finish of my own M, vs the standard coating. I also picked up a copy of Lenny Kravitz' book, along with Turnley's 'French Kiss'. I thumbed through LK's and I thought it was pretty interesting. He was nice enough to sign quite a few copies, too. SJP Posted March 8, 2015 Share #248 Posted March 8, 2015 Presumably you can ask Leica to redo the paint job so it looks nice and shiny and new & minty Anyway, I am trying to imagine the 'final finishing' step at the LK special production line. Presumably they have someone with a file or a scraper to deal with the unique blemishes that are required. Did he/she get a special course in how this should be done? Joshua Lowe Posted March 9, 2015 Share #251 Posted March 9, 2015 By the way - the Summilux 50/1.4 included with the Correspondent edition uses 43mm filters, rather than 46. This is per one of the associates at the Lecia Store.

menos I M6 Posted March 10, 2015 Share #253 Posted March 10, 2015 No, I have the " Normal " E 46 asph 50 /1,4 issued without the 6-bit, because the M8 did not exist at the time. I assumed you were referring to the earlier issued special edition lens of same built as is included in this LK edition (black paint on brass 50 Summilux ASPH min focus distance 0.7m with E43 filter thread with classic exterior and clip on hood). These lenses have nowadays very high asking prices as of their rare-ness (I believe 500 made in black paint and 500 in silver chrome).

The LK edition 50 lux bp is the same as the one of the MP3 package came out in bp and silver in the year 2006, yess there were 1000 in all. I assume that the E43 filter diameter could be not that common... By the way I would like to know how Leica does the brassing, can it really be sandpapered? Or done with a Dremel? colonel Posted March 13, 2015 Share #257 Posted March 13, 2015 Who cares about filter sizes. Rockwell spends half of every lens review talking about filter sizes. They are as cheap as chips compared to the lenses. I buy one for each lens. Who can be bothered to swap filters when you change lens !!!!

It is a difference to buy and carry yellow, orange and red filters in a common Leica size, like E39 or E46 fitting on all your lenses and then you have one extraordinary lens with E43... OK? patrick parker Posted March 21, 2015 Share #260 Posted March 21, 2015 A beautiful man and a beautiful camera. A true reflection of talent and wisdom coming together. Just look at that camera and that man, go on look at them. Lenny is a God! He rubbed each camera with his balls until the brass started to show, afterwards a guy brought in especially from Panasonic wiped them clean and boxed them. This no joke by the way, a few people at Solms knows of this. The whole thing took place at the Huntley Hotel at Santa Monica. Denzel Washington was also present. Go on look again, don't be shy now.
