toddkorol Posted January 23, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 23, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Question: I want to use an old flash a Vivitar 2800 (Trigger voltage: 40-180 volt.), but I want to make sure the trigger voltage won't damage my camera. What is the maximum for a digital M240? Thanks!
Advertisement Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Hi toddkorol, Take a look here Flash Voltage. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted January 23, 2015 Share #2 Posted January 23, 2015 All previous digital Leica M cameras were suitable for high-voltage flashes up to 600V. See the FAQ. It would be very strange if the M were not. However, to turn a 99.8 % certainty into a 100 % one, you can ask Leica by the technical questions form on their website. We would appreciate it if you published the result in the forum.
wparsonsgisnet Posted January 23, 2015 Share #3 Posted January 23, 2015 Two things: 1. I always carry an HSHS from Wein (in fact, I carry 2 of them .... ) to prevent my digital cameras from frying. 2. Here is a list of flash voltages: Photo Strobe Trigger Voltages Play safe. In my research I did see that the previous digital M could handle up to 600V. I just wanted to make sure nothing has changed with the M240, you never know, hate to fry a camera with something like this. Thanks
ayewing Posted January 23, 2015 Share #5 Posted January 23, 2015 I will be interested in the outcome. I have a Vivitar 2500 with a trigger voltage of 12v as measured by me. This seems in line with the figures in the list quoted by Bill Parsons. I have used it with my M9 without problems but so far I have not tried it on the M240. If there is any doubt it is best to use a Wein Sfe Sync.
toddkorol Posted January 26, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted January 26, 2015 The technical advisor for Leica has wrote me back and here is his response, so most flashes will work, except the really old braun type of flashes. Good info to know. Todd, The allowable trigger voltage is 300V.
