Lots to read in the latest LFI - a long interview with Steven K Lee who gives a refreshingly candid view of life at Leica, the banding issue, futures. Gives a little hint that he might have gone by Photokina 2008, clearly not someone to let the grass grow under his feet. Also clear that he's been challenging the received order at Leica and encouraging them to think out of the box.

Then there's Dan Suskin striking photographs of Namibia and a well written article to accompany them and some wonderful architectural photographs by Benjamin A Monn.

The Steven K. Lee interview is quite revealing and perhaps gives a very good insight into future product development plans, particularly for the "R". Quote "the R crowd are the most die-hard Leica fans of all."

He reveals that he has many R cameras and lenses and that his best ever photographs were taken with an R. He considers that the R is now the "underdog" of the SLR world, manual focus, big and heavy!

My interpretation of that is that the R10 will be autofocus and smaller. I wonder if that means full frame is out? Will current lenses be backwards compatible? Heaven forbid that future Leica reflex cameras will be only 4/3 sensor technology?

He rules out "band-aid" type quick fixes to technical problems in future........I wonder if he was thinking of M8 and IR filters when he said that, as I was as I read it!?

The article poses even more questions than answers, but reveals a man in a hurry to fix the Leica company in my view.

I agree.

I also have a few Leica R's and lenses, and I am very happy with the results.

As for my Leica M, ....I have only one and have no intention to change the status Q.

Long live the Leica R.

Cheers.
