XVarior Posted January 14, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 14, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) After reading about the leica M9 sensor corrosion issue, I thought that it could be a good idea to send my M9 to Leica Germany for sensor replacement and M9-P Upgrade. I really like the M9 and this way I'll know for sure I'll have it worry or issues free for many years to come. So, I Wrote to Leica and their support team was too kind to ask me to send the camera in. Camera should be back here "as new' in 6 weeks. Will be missing her a lot but I'm sure the Xvario will make up for that PS: Camera was operating perfectly well with no dust or anything visibly affecting my images unless I shoot at f16 which I rarely do. But when Leica asked me to send them a picture "Blue sky" taken at f16, they seem to have detected early corrosion signs, so they booked a sensor for it. This may have previously been made crystal clear from other mamouth threads that I haven't sifted. But Leica's official statement wasn't clear on this point. Good to know! I did sift the 16 pages on it & at about page 15 this did become clear after a conversation with a Leica employee: the response to the question was 'of course it does' which was reassuring in it's tone. With the exception of a summicron I'm one of those propping up the second hand market, nice to know though that when my budget matches my aspiration that this is how they operate. Impressive b/c the M9 has already held value more than any other Leica digital camera, and perhaps more than most of other digital camera out there. It was very clear in my view, but strange for non-European customers (and dealers btw). Well, the employee was the CEO... People at Leica I know were quite nonplussed at this concern. In Europe and specifically Germany, at general a guaranty is regarded as being on the product, never on the user, be it a coffee grinder or a camera. If you see dark spots, those are dust, no problem with your sensor. if you see white circle spots with dark bulges then yes, send that picture to the link here: Important Information Concerning the CCD Sensors // Global // About Leica News // Leica News // World of Leica - Leica Camera AG they will get back to you with the verdict whether the sensor need replacement or just service by an authorised dealer.
