M9 Yes

slightly more serious - a thread like structure at the top and a line at the bottom - I'll still wait a bit though - the marks aren't nearly as bad as the dust on the sensor (and that hasn't bothered me). This is one of the very first M9 cameras from mid 2009.

Even this is not something I had (or would have) noticed if the issue hadn't been raised.

My MM purchased in May is good, it's just that the camera has lost value now. How can one be compensated for that? My investment in Leica and MM has just depreciated greatly.

Nobody should consider a digital camera an $$££investment … and any ££$$depreciation is a fact of life and should be taken on the chin. Keep using it and enjoy it … knowing that it's currently the best available digital monochrome camera with, following today's announcement, an extended warranty for the sensor. Your camera still has 29 months of its original warranty and was unlikely to ever appreciate. Nearly all digital cameras depreciate - consider all the pro spec Nikon and Canon DSLR s costing £$'000s a few years ago and now selling for peanuts.

No, I have an M-E which has never been wet-cleaned, always just a blower with fine results. Please, is there any evidence that wet cleaning is the culprit for those experiencing delamination? Tom

I don't think so - if you've wet cleaned with isopropanol then it's really unlikely to have caused a problem (that's what Leica use). Humidity might do it, but I suspect it's just luck.

But if you don't see problems in your pictures - just relax and enjoy the camera, in the knowledge that if you DO see problems later then they can be fixed.

I would have thought that your MM had just gone up in value with the news that the sensor will be replaced if there is a defect - even outside the warranty period. Which other camera can boast that?

Your camera lost value the day you opened the box.

I have to disagree with you Dunk. If I wanted to trade in or sell now, who in their right mind would buy such a camera? I am extremely disappointed and would expect manufactures to do a recall and fix the issue proper.

Ha ha, maybe a twist in the tale, maybe Jono. Just imagine those with the Ralph Gibson edition for 28k as an investment or other collector packages ?

Well, it seems that they are now guaranteed a sensor replacement IF there is a problem. If I wanted to buy such a thing, then it would increase my confidence. Which other camera manufacturer agrees to replace a sensor out of warranty?

I rather regret looking at my cameras (come to think of it I actually have collectable versions of both the MM and the M9 ) because I've noticed no problems shooting with them, but Ithe problem is there on a very small scale. I'm comforted by the fact that whilst using them it's no issue . . . but if i wanted to sell them (they might be worth a bit) then I can have a CLA and a new sensor.

Don't you think that the NO part of the forum will be underrepresented in this survey?

That is always a risk, so I guess it should be taken into consideration.

So far 15 yes to 20 no. This ratio seems to be more or less consistent.
