Superleggera - How to crop

Shot taken during the Spa Histric GP 2 weeks ago. The car is an Aston Martin DB4 Superleggera of 1961 but I'm uncertain as to how to crop.

The full picture has a disturbing shadow in the bottom right corner

This one is cropped to remove as much as possible this shadow still showing the rim of the headlight.

And a second one where the shadow is completely removed but also much of the rest of the bonnet. Still I'm inclined to prefer this last one.

Thanks for looking and best regards

Gerd

Why not use the cloning tool in PhotoShop to get rid of it?

For me, at least, I found this to be a useful lesson. Thanks for this. I think that the last one is the best in terms of composition, but the middle one is more interesting with the headlight. The bit, however, that "annoys" me in the middle shot is the reflection of a lamp-post or some sort of bar in the shadow in the upper left which is more visible to my eye because the shadow is bigger. It's a pity that you don't have a shot that is just up a bit, so that although the "superlegerra" writing in the bottom is cut out, but so that you can see it on the other side of the car near the headlights. I'd be really curious to see how such a shot would work. That way you'd get more the hood, with more of the car's detailed style as well. Hope this makes sense.

All the best,

Gerd,

good first post on the new forum.

For me the final crop works really well. I like the square aspect and the Superleggera is a nice signature to the shot.

Gerd -

Welcome to the Forum. With one exception I prefer the first since it captures a bit more of the curvature of the front. If you could clone out the shadow that Ilan mentions I think that one would be the clear winner.

John, Ilan, John & Stuart,

Thank you all for your comments. I will for shure give the cloning a try even when I'm not that familiar with Photoshop. For now I'm going first to post some other pictures taken at Spa-Francorchamps that weekend.

I think that JR has put into words what made the last one "work" for me - the square format and the "superleggera" signature.

Thanks & regards

Gerd
