bocaburger Posted November 16, 2014 Share #41 Posted November 16, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Your case may be different, but I lack the statistical information that would cause me to speak of a " spate of early deaths" A number of posts in a forum can hardly be called a sensible foundation. Would you share the basis of your assertions with us? I meant that I haven't heard of a spate of early deaths in any cameras with live view that have been around long enough and put to heavy enough pro use to rack up 6-figure actuations. I did not mean to suggest that there are a spate of early shutter deaths in the M240. Clearly the numbers are negligible, in fact yours is the first one I recall reading of, and again as I stated earlier, does not sound like the result of wear. It does seem logical though that if 2 shutter cycles happen for each photograph taken with live view in the M240, then the more one uses live view the sooner one might expect the shutter to need replacement if the shutter is the same specification as the one in the M9. jaapv Posted November 16, 2014 Author Share #42 Posted November 16, 2014 I cannot recall any shutter broken through wear on this forum. What we have seen is mostly catastrophic ones which I think are caused by a particle between the blades ( more likely on a rangefinder without mirror), electronic, teflon finger sticking, and undetermined. Never wear. Leica does not give numbers, but looking at comparable Copal shutters on other brands we see figures between 150.000 and 300.000. I don't think this is a cause for concern, unless you are a pro shooting 5000 per session. And those guys regard shutter replacement as yearly maintenance. algrove Posted November 22, 2014 Share #43 Posted November 22, 2014 Sent in my first M-240 due to frequent lockups and they replaced the shutter on it among other things. Sent in another today and we will see what they repair on that one.

LocalHero1953 Posted December 1, 2014 Share #45 Posted December 1, 2014 Actually it sounds more like the lower Teflon cocking finger sticking. I thought this was a wind-up when I first read your post (sounds a bit medical - prostate check anyone?), but I realise you meant it. It is not a failure mechanism I have heard of before - can you explain? Any idea how common it is?

LocalHero1953 Posted December 1, 2014 Share #47 Posted December 1, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hmm. Nice bit of work by Mark Norton. Have you heard of this as a failure mechanism, or were you just inferring from Jon Pop's symptoms?
jaapv Posted December 2, 2014 Author Share #48 Posted December 2, 2014 It has been mentioned on this forum from time to time. I had it on my M8 years ago.
