Yes- but then you are disabling the hybrid part, and as a non-hybrid, the Leica OVF is simply better.

Nope. I'm talking about the Fuji x100t. Also it has a built in diopter and the way it fits between your eyesocket and nose is even better than M6 this makes it super sturdy. You can easily use it 1/8th with no problems.

Depends on your nose, I would say ;)

I finally found the reason why I have no problems with long shuttertimes and others have....:D

No you don't. What you want is the choice.

Choice is fine, but the MM does not give it. MM gives you blown highlights with normal settings. You must 2nd guess the MM. you have to fight it like a Fuji when it comes to blown highlights.

Listen Cyrano , even if you used that thing as a monopod 1/8th wouldn't come out sharp with a monochrom. Shutter vibration wouldn't allow it.

:D It does - I once posted a series of ten consecutive M8 shots @ 1/6th using a 35 - three were really sharp, six usable at smaller print size and one blurred...

No problem here- you just don't have the same nose genes that I have...:p

But maybe if you start telling fibs the situation might improve :D

:D No tricks, I assure you. I'm sure my patients like me to have a steady hand.

Don't forget I often use a microscope. It is just a matter of training. My eye-surgeon beats me at it by a fair margin though. A few weeks ago he took out 16 microscopically small stitches from my eye without touching the eyeball with the tweezers and cutter once.

Good discussion. I actually just pulled the trigger on a "new" Monochrom this weekend. My local Leica store got a silver QM2 stock MM in, and I couldn't resist. For those who don't know, QM2 devices are models that Leica had to send back for something (sometimes an RF adjustment) and they tend to have some very minor blemish on them. I've looked at this unit many times and can't find anything up with it, and I was able to get it for $5650 after the $750 instant rebate on the cameras, and it has the full 2-year warranty like a brand new unit would.

I also have an M-P 240 and yes I have to carry different batteries and such now, but I love the output of the current MM and at that price, how could I pass it up. I get to shoot with an MM now, and I'm sure the new one will be at least $8K if not more given the prices of the M-P 240.

So far, I'm really happy with it but I will say that shutter is really clunky compared to the new M. :-)

That's a great price. I think I would have bitten, too.

I think the M9 based MM will benefit more from the evolutionary upgrade to the M240 platform than the M9 to M240 did. There will be no colour issues (!) and the additional DR will be welcome, although MM files are already ridiculously flexible. The existing MM is close and the M240 platform may just tick all the remaining boxes.

If the M240 MM gets the same ISO quality boost of about 1.5 stops compared to the M9 Mono, you will be able to shoot at 1600-2500 and get results that look like base ISO in some cams. This does remarkable things for what you can shoot, for lack of need for a tripod. ISO 10,000 could be darned good.

Is the metering better on the M240 than MM/M9? If so, this will be a welcome addition. Its not just the lack of highlight recovery options but its alliance with a relatively crude metering system in the MM that can make it tough to handle in rapidly changing light. Under more controlled shooting, its easy, but when things change fast and you only have one shot to catch the moment.

I have a MM which I doubt I will sell. Oddly, I am more interested in the M240 Mono as a second body than I am in a M240 successor. Can't wait to see what Leica comes up with...

This can be true and to begin it 'did my head in', but once one accepts dialling in negative comp a lot of the time, it is fine. This should mean you are taking a step back for each step forward the MM gives you, but I find it more a case of three forwards and one back. I still seem to come out way ahead with MM files even if I have more neg comp than required. I agree that it is a nuisance and more intelligent metering would help a lot here.

I am assuming the additional DR of the M240 CMOS would also make a lot of difference here, as for a given highlight, there will be more exposure in the shadows, meaning less of a push required to bring the shadows into line when exposing to retain highlights.

Choice is fine, but the MM does not give it. MM gives you blown highlights with normal settings. You must 2nd guess the MM. you have to fight it like a Fuji when it comes to blown highlights.

While I am still fairly confident that a CMOS-based successor to the M Monochrom will come some day, I have no idea when that will be and what the camera will look like. And I guess that if a press release was imminent then I would know by this time.

Not imminent ,but I heard something different: end 2015.
