jdlaing Posted February 20, 2015 Share #81 Posted February 20, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Obviously…just thought that someone else would offer an alternative fix without my having to call my usual sources at Leica. So, without any additional tips besides the stitching (which I appreciate, but not my preference), I made the call today and will get a new strap sent tomorrow. No surprise to me, as NJ has always been prompt and helpful. Just thought the forum might suggest something else simple that I was missing. Jeff S Posted February 23, 2015 Share #82 Posted February 23, 2015 So, without any additional tips besides the stitching (which I appreciate, but not my preference), I made the call today and will get a new strap sent tomorrow. The good news is that I got the new strap as promised; the bad news is that it's problematic to the same degree as the first. I asked the rep to check the replacement strap before shipping to me, but it came sealed and unopened. Compared to my M8.2 strap (and ALL other Leica straps I've owned for over 30 years), these black plastic retainers just don't click as solidly and audibly in place. Inevitably, they work loose. The rep confirmed that the strap is a new design for the M. Sometimes best to leave well enough alone. The strap for the new M has a more pliable shoulder/neck bad than prior versions, but who cares if it fails to secure adequately? I'll either find a way to secure it better or, more likely, put the strap from my now infrequently used M8.2 on the M. Between the initial M strap lug failures, the O ring disconnections, and the less effective plastic retainer connections, maybe time for better attention to detail. Fortunately the camera is a gem. jdlaing Posted February 23, 2015 Share #83 Posted February 23, 2015 O ring failures wouldn't be a Leica issue or problem as that is not what they supply. Did you check that you are pushing the plastic clip down far enough? I've not had a problem with any of them.
Jeff S Posted February 23, 2015 Share #84 Posted February 23, 2015 Did you check that you are pushing the plastic clip down far enough? Ah, that's it…I'm just not smart or strong enough. I've been using these things for 4 decades without problem until the new design….now with 2 straps in a row. Jeff

Edward Louis Marit Posted February 24, 2015 Share #87 Posted February 24, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) The plastic clip on one of mine doesn't stay down either . So I binned it and bought an AA silk strap. Which I am very pleased with. I thought mine was an anomaly but it seems like there is some kind of a defect with them...
