Torn between two options for better grip of the 240.

I have a RRS L Bracket and grip permanently attached to my M240. I've been carrying it every day for the last month suspended by two fingers on the grip and with a wrist strap as a fail safe. Perfect grip for hand holding and easily mounted on a tripod in either orientation.

Wouldn't be without it.

Keith, I have the RRS also, but for me the Leica grip contours suit my hand better and make it easier to hit the focus assist button while using R lenses.

Let's all keep in mind, since gloves come in many different sizes, one grip will not fit all hands.

Yes, that focus assist button is a nightmare with or without the grip. I'm still searching for the perfect 'blimp' to add to the button.

I certainly considered the other grips but needed an L bracket in combination with the grip and so opted for the RRS solution.

Cheers

I bought the multifunction grip so I could have TTL flash and the EVF at the same time. I thought I would not use it on a day to day basis, because the RRS grip on my M9 wasn't very ergonomic, for my hands. Instead I find I nearly never remove the multi grip. And now I'm thinking of a standard Leia grip for my newer M-P. I find the MFG the most comfortable grip I have used and great for vertical shooting. I don't completely trust the strap lugs on an M240. Mostly I use a Black Rapid strap if I need one. Most of the time I work from a bag so then, no strap at all.

On the M9 I tried the RRS grip and a Zhou case. I preferred the grip over the case as the case made the camera very thick. Actually, my preference was a thumbie and a wrist strap on the M9. I have yet to try one for the M240 but with the Leia grip I don't feel I need it.

The only downside of the MFG (apart from the dodgy clock settings, which I have turned off) is the screw attachment. It would have been nice if they could have incorporated the normal locking mechanism, somehow.

I use an Angelo Pelle case with built-in grip, which has served me well for a year or so now and the leather is now taking on a lovely patina.

I should also say that I think my hands are probably just a little larger than normal, and whilst the leather case itself is quite 'grippy', the built in grip is also substantial enough for me to get a good solid hold on the camera.

Hope this helps.

I have been looking at the RRS grip/plate/lbracket for a while.

Do you find it adds much weight (i know its aluminium not brass, is it lighter??)

And do you find it a pain to unscrew to access the card ?

I really like Leica MF grip and Thumbs Up combo. For studio shoot and tripod I add Arca-Swiss L Bracket to the setup.

Tried RRS grip but it felt short length wise.

Sure, it does add a little weight, but when combined with a wrist strap offers an extremely secure means of transportation and very secure grip. I can carry the camera suspended at my side by two fingers with 90mm lens attached all day long and not be conscious of the weight in my hand.

How often do you access your cards? It takes me perhaps five seconds to unscrew the base which is something I do on average once a day.

I also use the Arca-Swiss P0 head but I find the RRS L bracket to be far more sturdy than the Arca version.

I vote for the splendid Arca version.

I leave it permanently attached to my P0 and the tiny Arca plate is there too, so that I don't ever have to change the bottom plate or use one that is larger than the native plate. I like this arrangement since I particularly don't want anything that increases the size of the camera in normal use, and want to reduce as far as possible the amount of gear I have to carry around.

Depends, sometimes i go a week without pulling the card out, other days i will access it 4 or 5 times.

I think i will be purchasing one, i do intend upgrading to an Arca compatible system for my work cameras eventually

I meant to ask you this before, but can one mount that Arca Swiss L brakcet the other way around so the RF window is on top?

I have not tried other brands, but I can report that you unfortunately cannot reverse (swap ends) the L attachment from the RRS assembly so that the viewfinder is uppermost for verticals.

The locating holes positions (on my example) are similar but not identical, presumably deliberately so.

I guess not a significant handicap for many but it would have been useful for the left eyed amongst us at least.

Thanks Geoff

I like the RRS M240 L bracket, however I find I almost prefer using the RRS generic L brakcet so I can put the RF on top instead of having my nose fight with my ballhead for position. It's like a camera/ballhead/L bracket rugby match.

Size 8 hands. I have had the Leica grip. Didn't care for it at all. I prefer the RRS grip over the Leica and use it occasionally when I have the need for a larger tripod with a RRS head. The grip I like the most is the Arabesque grip from lance688188 at eBay. It is similar to the M8-M9 grip in that it has a vertical cylinder for the grip section. The cylindrical shape allows your fingers to catch the space between the grip and the body. Coupled with the right length wrist strap, your camera will hang safely on your finger tips. Pair it with a Thumb's Up for more control.
