barcoder Posted September 26, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 26, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was looking for dust on my sensor and noticed two artifacts in the image. One at the top looks like stitches. The other looks like a white dot on a line. I tried to paste the image to the forum but had trouble. Here's a link to it. https://www.evernote.com/shard/s252/sh/886cc1a0-76f6-42e1-99e3-8b8102a2add3/a5c4be46a77e065a12b9dabdeabea84b Are these issues that need a sensor replacement? k-hawinkler Posted September 26, 2014 Share #4 Posted September 26, 2014 Lee, From the looks of it, sensor replacement: no, sending it in: yes. The white line is caused by pixel(s) that need to be mapped out. The dust and other crap probably require a wet cleaning or the Pentax lollipop that Leica is using in one of their videos. sblitz Posted September 26, 2014 Share #5 Posted September 26, 2014 looks like a good cleaning is necessary ..... i had a scratch in mine, no idea how that happened and Leica wouldn't offer an explanation, but it required a new sensor on my M9. Didn't look anything like this.

First , it needs a complete and good cleaning with per ex."Visible dust brush" and if still dust "Sensor Swab" with "Eclipse" Spots on the top left is suspect Have you ever cleaned the sensor ? .... and you have a dead px > only Wetzlar can remap it Good luck Henry
barcoder Posted September 26, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted September 26, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Doc, No, it's an M9. I've cleaned the sensor with a Giottos Rocket Air Blower and DustAid Platinum DSLR Sensor Cleaner. The spots are oil spots as far as I can tell, at least I am unable to clean the spots with those two methods. I think it might be worth it for me to send it in with my 35mm Summicron. My range finder needs adjusting too, and the lens needs 6-bit coding and maybe optimized for digital. I think that I've read reports here that sending it in can take a long time. So I guess I'll send it all out mid-November when my calendar looks free for a few months. I've never sent something in to Leica, so I'll look around here for any tips on how to do that. But if you have any advice to share I'd greatly appreciate it! Kind regards, Lee
k-hawinkler Posted September 26, 2014 Share #8 Posted September 26, 2014 Lee, I would get in touch with Leica NJ. They should be able to help you. If they can't, then you always can deal with Leica in Germany. Because of the value of your gear the US requires some extra paperwork. FedEx should be able to help you with that. barcoder Posted February 4, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted February 4, 2015 Lee,I would get in touch with Leica NJ. They should be able to help you. I just got word from Leica that my sensor is indeed corroded. I should get it back mid-March. I sent it in Jan 30. If only I had followed your advice sooner... Thanks to all here! The collected advice is always helpful and I would be wiser in the future to follow it better. I am taking advantage of the time waiting for backordered CCD's and also getting my 35mm Summicron ASPH 6-bit coded and digitally calibrated.
Jeff S Posted February 4, 2015 Share #10 Posted February 4, 2015 Thanks to all here! The collected advice is always helpful and I would be wiser in the future to follow it better. Well, until they find a permanent solution to the problem, your new sensor could have the same issue….but hopefully you won't have to go through it again, quicker or not. Guest jvansmit Posted March 5, 2015 Share #12 Posted March 5, 2015 There seems to be some variance re M9 sensor replacement turnaround times. Mine was sent for a sensor replacement in early October last year with a quoted turnaround time of 6 months, and was returned 4 months later at beginning of Feb.
