microview Posted September 23, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted September 23, 2014 This review is rather more specific about distances and aperture limitations: where Jonathan Slack just says, in his very nice piece, 'The lens focuses right down to 20cm, although the maximum aperture is reduced to f2.8 at the closest focus distance to ensure the best image quality'. It seems you have to be 1.8m away before f1.7 comes into play, so you couldn't for example have a flower in sharp focus and its surroundings blurred. In spite of that it is a very tempting proposition given its weight compared to the M(240) and proper handling size and settings interface compared to the Sony RX1/1r! I think you'd be fine for DOF. At 70 cm the "official" sharp zone would be 4 cm @ 2.8, make it 6 cm for digital but your background will still be totally blurred. Im quite surprised if that is the case. Jono writes in his review that it is no "speed demon" in regards to auto focus. I would like to see more reviews before I pull the trigger, my main concern being auto focus speed and responsiveness.
