As you may have seen, Leica have now launched FotoPark, an online storage, archival, and printing service for photographers. It will go into beta shortly, and they are inviting customers to register.

I have tried to do so at http://www.leica-fotopark.com/ but the activation link I received just clicks through to the main domain without activating or asking me for any other details.

Anyone else managed to successfully register?

I did this morning and received an email thanking me for my registration and including a validation link.

I clicked on that and it took me to a page which describes how the system works and what it's all about (the same page as you link to above)

Leica's webmasters are well known for not getting things quite right first time - the "English" pdf for one of their new cameras is the German version.

I did the same as Andy and got the same email and link.

As it takes me to a page that still says Register In Advance Now, I'm not sure if I

am really registered or not

If you try and register again using the same email, it will tell you that you have already registered, but still need to click on the link in the mail they sent......

You have your mail to prove it, It is just a pre-registration anyway. But it is a strange loop...

I will take a look, but I am skeptical for two reasons. First, web development would not seem to be Leica's core competency. Second, and more importantly, seems like I get an e-mail announcing a new website like Leica's every few weeks. There are significant switching costs when changing systems.

On the other hand what could make this interesting is if Leica will be using top flight print fulfillment providers. One would assume Leica would only use the best. Then again, you may be willing to pay top dollar for some of the best equipment in the world, but is your client base willing to do so for your prints?

By the way, you may be having trouble viewing the new site because Leica engineered it without the need for a screen.

I'm strangely fascinated by the concept, though I'm not sure why or how it could be better than most other picture sharing and storing websites. It seems quite limiting to have a photo website done by one of the smallest camera manufacturers. The danger is obviously that it will be more about the fact that my pictures were taken by a Leica than about my pictures themselves.

All these caveats aside, I'm somehow quite positive about the whole premise. I'd like to try it out and have been looking for a good place to store my pictures.

I'm guessing, but a tie-in with Whitewall wouldn't surprise me
