XVarior Posted September 16, 2014 Share #21 Â Posted September 16, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Cann't verify (I'm travelling for one month without XV); but loaded the file and curiously the revision date mentionned says 26/02/2014??? Ready since February??? Â It was me not the file. My mac had already "automatically" decompressed the fie for me, There was no need to open it, just copy it to the SD card and proceed. my XV is updated now, and I'm experiencing differences in AF speeds, that was last night in dark living room, will test today and let you know, hope you guy can do that that too... enjoy

euston Posted September 16, 2014 Share #25  Posted September 16, 2014 I downloaded the new firmware (file .upd) on my computer. But Windows cannot open this compressed file.   How to practically proceed to install this firmware on the camera?  Good morning, Guy  The .upd file is the firmware file. It doesn’t require any further unpacking. Its full name is XV-1_100.upd  Copy this file to your SD card (not to any folder on the card) and follow the instructions. I found that the battery needs to be completely fully and freshly charged. Here are the instructions from Leica’s web site. Good luck!  Firmware Update Procedure 1. Download an updated version of the firmware and double click on the ZIP-file to unpack it. 2. Copy the firmware file onto a SD Memory Card in its top level folder. 3. Make sure to turn off the power switch on the camera. 4. Insert the fully charged battery to the body. If the battery is not fully charged, the update process screen will not appear. 5. Insert the SD Memory Card into the camera. 6. Turn the camera – while simultaneously pressing the info button – on. 7. The firmware update screen will appear. Press OK. 8. The LEICA X Vario will start the update process. The firmware update will take about 90 seconds. 9. After the update process please restart the camera.  CAUTION:
Please do not turn off your camera or do not remove the SD Memory Card while updating your camera's firmware. DOING SO CAN CAUSE A SERIOUS DAMAGE TO YOUR CAMERA!
Guytou Posted September 16, 2014 Share #26 Â Posted September 16, 2014 OK, thank you very much euston ! Â I suspected that it was simply necessary to copy the file .upd from map SD and to follow the instructions. (A Little like updating a TV with a firmware copied from an USB key.) papimuzo Posted September 16, 2014 Author Share #27 Â Posted September 16, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was not expressing myself very well.... What I was noting above was that this firmware update was done (last revision date) on 26 February 2014: I wonder why it is released only now and what exactly it really brings? waloszek Posted October 6, 2014 Share #30  Posted October 6, 2014 I did the update this weekend. It took me three attempts until the update started. Maybe that I did not press the INFO button correctly...  All things work as described, except for one: I cannot start video playback with the INFO button -- the button still toggles through different views (as before, the MENU/SET button starts the video). Has anyone made a similar experience or am I doing something wrong?  I find it very useful that the INFO button now also confirms selections. I cannot find any changes in AF or AWB behavior (XVarior reported improved AF in low light...). Since Leica did not report on these, I assume that nothing has happened in this respect...  Best regards, Gerd  Here is my personal view of the update: Leica X Vario: Firmware
rjans Posted October 6, 2014 Share #31  Posted October 6, 2014 I did not have problems with the update. The update does not offer very much. It makes the camera easier to use. I cannot comment on the video playback due to the fact I only use the X Vario for taking pictures. I prefer the use of a real camcorder.  AF: I do not notice any improvement in speed. Also no difference observed in white balance behaviour.  Best  Roger

hoppyman Posted October 6, 2014 Share #33 Â Posted October 6, 2014 I have both a PC and a MacBook. When I downloaded the file on my MacBook, it did not behave as I expected but the zip file did yield the .upd when I double clicked. However no matter how I tried, it would not copy to the freshly formatted in camera SDHC card. I still do not know why. The card had been previously used for updating firmware in my M9 and then M (typ 240). I just formatted it in the X Vario. Â Repeating the download on my PC, then copying to the root of that card worked without issue. However the update just appeared to fail to start three times and finally worked on the fourth. After nothing appeared to happen for some period the camera would operate as normal. The most disconcerting aspect for me was that there was no indication on the LCD that anything was happening until after some period it displayed the single word updating or similar. Not very confidence inspiring and nothing like the process on the M & S cameras.
jhluxton Posted October 10, 2014 Share #34 Â Posted October 10, 2014 Take care doing this update. I had the instructions open on my computer screen and I followed it. There was no indication as to what would apoear on the screen. Â My XV appeared to shut down with nothing appearing on screen and I presumed it had gone into sleep mode and eventually shut it down. Â That must have caused the serious damage the instructions warned about and hence my camera is on its way back for repairs. Thank goodness it is covered ny the passport. Â Leica should ensure the firmware update process easier to implement, with errors not causing unrecoverable problems. Â The update I installed on the X1 some years ago worked well and was easy to implement. This I felt wasn't. Â John
rjans Posted October 10, 2014 Share #35 Â Posted October 10, 2014 The update process was not well described in the instructions. In the (German) instruction they mentioned it would take 90 seconds, but it took at least 3 minutes or more. Â Best
