A miller Posted September 5, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 5, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Some images from the stroll through the Highline with Sharookh and Stuart a couple of weeks ago. MM/75mm summilux/yellow filter My instinct was to add some subtle toning to enhance to mood I was trying to convey. Does it work? C&C are most welcome! Best, Adam Welcome, dear visitor! pauledell Posted September 5, 2014 Share #2 Posted September 5, 2014 Adam, A great series. As for the toning, I like the results of the last version the most. To me, that picture speaks of NYC. Paul
sharookh Posted September 6, 2014 Share #3 Posted September 6, 2014 I still recall that morning. New Yorkers are lucky to have something like this to enjoy. The last image is my favourite..
Avatar Posted September 6, 2014 Share #4 Posted September 6, 2014 I like your eye very much as you know. Maybe for some people that sort of technique works..but for you, I don't think you need to do it if that makes any sense (it's a compliment)
LichMD Posted September 7, 2014 Share #5 Posted September 7, 2014 A really nice series here The last is really special
A miller Posted September 7, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted September 7, 2014 Many thanks, Paul, Sharookh, Mark and LichMD - I really appreciate your comments, particularly in regard to your preference and the toning. All the best, Adam
wilfredo Posted September 7, 2014 Share #7 Posted September 7, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I vote for number 1. The reflections make it an interesting photo.

dj_61 Posted September 7, 2014 Share #9 Posted September 7, 2014 I like all three, but I would like to see number one without split toning. Here is why: the toning draws my attention to the panels and away from the interesting reflections (water reservervoir, etc.). My guess is that a more monochrom look woukd work better. Furthermore, I prefer the warm tone of pic nr 3 over the blue toning of 2....
A miller Posted September 7, 2014 Author Share #10 Posted September 7, 2014 Thank you very much, DJ. Here are monochrome versions as well as a shot of the second that I took last year with Portra and a 50mm DR summicron (for comparison). This may prove that I am, in fact, "tone deaf;" and that Portra does indeed rule the world. Welcome, dear visitor! dj_61 Posted September 7, 2014 Share #11 Posted September 7, 2014 I am a black and white only type of guy. Medium format till last year and now a M Monochrom. I truely like both pics in straight black and white. My gut feeling was right (at least to me): the picture nr 1 does work better this way. Even has a Ralph Gibson quality to it. Gibson is one mf my hero's.
A miller Posted September 7, 2014 Author Share #12 Posted September 7, 2014 Thanks for following up on this, DJ. On the first, I had hopes for a little more shimmer from the reflections of morning sun, hence the attempt at toning to try to create a replacement dimension to the image. But on reflection, the toning I chose continues to remind me of urine. So if anything I will likely stick with the B&W. Thanks again! Adam
