millra Posted September 3, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 3, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Looking to shoot a Sigma 15mm 2.8 Full frame DG Fisheye on my M240. What's the best Nikon adapter to use? N/flex? any particular model better than another? Or am I better off with an R-M adapter and a Nikon to R adapter? Many thank in advance for any insight offered. Cheers

mmradman Posted September 3, 2014 Share #2 Posted September 3, 2014 There is no Nikon to R adapter. Best Nikon to M adapter is Novoflex, also most expensive. You can find cheaper on ebay but you will be relying on luck.
Gary Clennan Posted September 3, 2014 Share #3 Posted September 3, 2014 I use Metabones which has worked out well for me....
millra Posted September 3, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted September 3, 2014 I found meatiness to handle an M lens on a Nikon, but no a Nikon lens on an M240. Am I missing something? Do you perhaps have a model number? Cheers and thanks
Berlinman Posted September 4, 2014 Share #5 Posted September 4, 2014 The Novoflex one is working well. You should by the newest version with the possibility to use it with Nikon lenses with only electronical aperture control. (If You want to use it with other lenses in the future...) 250swb Posted September 4, 2014 Share #6 Posted September 4, 2014 To connect a Nikon lens to an M240 the adapter is simply a spacer, nothing more, so any will do. It obviously doesn't have any effect over focus or anything so ultimate precision is irrelevant. I use a cheap eBay Chinese made thing and it works perfectly for a tiny fraction of the cost of a Novoflex adapter. Steve

250swb Posted September 4, 2014 Share #8 Posted September 4, 2014 LensRentals.com - There Is No Free Lunch, Episode 763: Lens Adapters So they are saying don't use any sort of adapter, so it is hardly a solution is it? Given the basic Leica lens flange to mount leaks light you need to address the real world and 'adapt' , not throw your hands in the air and give up. Given the basic Leica lens flange to mount leaks light you need to address the real world and 'adapt' , not throw your hands in the air and give up. Steve Hi Steve, I don't get the impression that they say to give up. In fact they point out that many folks are using adapters, so they must be useful. What matters is a good fit and that the two surfaces, near camera and lens, are in parallel. I have too many adapters to count. Some are better then others. In fact my Novoflex adapters are the only ones precise enough for the following trick. Mount the APO-Telyt-R 280/4 on a tripod. Focus the lens with a NEX camera. Then swap camera and adapter with another adapter and M9. Take the shot. Amazingly, the M9 shot is in focus. I used this technique before there was the M240 or the A7R. Nowadays I would use an A7R with adapter on a tripod in landscape orientation for full frame shots. However, I found out that for that combination shutter shock can ruin portrait orientation shots. So in that case the M9 would still come in handy.
FlashGordonPhotography Posted September 4, 2014 Share #10 Posted September 4, 2014 I use the Novoflex with my Zeiss 100mm f2 Marko Plannar (in Nikon mount). It's great. I'm also thinking of adding the Sigma fisheye. It's supposed to be a great lens. Gordon
bocaburger Posted September 5, 2014 Share #11 Posted September 5, 2014 I have the coded Novoflex adapter for R lenses, and a Chinese-made Fotodiox adapter for Nikon. I'm a pretty decent judge of precision machining and frankly I can't see where the Fotodiox is the least bit inferior to the Novoflex. Perhaps the difference lies in sample variation, but given the QC issues with Leicas and German cars I'm not sure the age-old reverence for German quality is still entirely justified. Just my opinion, YMMV.
