(feet in focus, not head) Does anyone know about this lens? Hear very little. regards Welcome, dear visitor! telewatt Posted May 5, 2007 Share #3 Posted May 5, 2007 he mean the Telyt R 4,8/350mm ..isn't it?.. built 1980-93... first made as "test-lenses" for the Olympic Games "Lake Placid".... regards, Jan
gogopix Posted May 5, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted May 5, 2007 Yes, it is the telyt 350mm. I dont know how great f4.8 will be, seems a little soft but a half stop up gets pretty good. Not like the 280, but the extra reach is sometimes important, and it is a LOT cheaper than the 280.
telyt Posted May 6, 2007 Share #5 Posted May 6, 2007 What I have heard is that this lens incorporates Leica's "APO" glass, their version of what Nikon calls ED glass. I've also heard that Nikon's optical engineers would love to work with APO glass in preference to ED glass. I'd like to see if you can make the lens flare, the photos I've seen with this lens suggest that you will have a hard time making it mis-behave. From a friend who used to use this lens, I've heard that the focussing action can be a bit slow and cumbersome for the more active subjects.
gdb Posted May 6, 2007 Share #6 Posted May 6, 2007 I also found this lens, that looks very interesting, in quite mint confition for 1000 €,with its leather pouch and box. I am posting two pictures of pidgeons shot in my garden in the "Nature and Wildlife" forum. Opinions very welcome Cheers Gérard

gogopix Posted May 6, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted May 6, 2007 Had you not told us we would have always been wondering:D. ...... The day I get a shot like this with a 28mm lens is the day I ask Doug Herr for his "Get close to wildllife" crown! gogopix Posted May 6, 2007 Author Share #9 Posted May 6, 2007 Dear Doug The focus is a bit stiff, and I may send for CLA and maybe a different lube. However, in my experience they can loosen with use, so I will try It is a little 'jumpy' and difficult to get the target (I am NOT really a podiatrist!) The glass is impressive and I pushed (see th -1) so there are ISO artifacts. But the main thing is that the red did not 'bleed' even at 100% says the lens is better than the resolution and is very well behaved. A little heavy, buy with the Leica table mount It could be OK I may try to use the Visoflex shoulder mount. Do you know if that can be done? How would you hook it up regards
