Sloppy pix to show off the 24mm lens

Waiting for the bank to open this morning, I stopped for a fix and liked the light in Peet's (Lexington, MA). The dbl cappucino was even more phenomenal.

These are with the Leica 24mm asph, 486 filter, Edmund's 1.102 tuned1 profile, and wb'd on the wall just under the skylight to the left.

The first is at iso 320 and f2.8; the second, at 1250 and f5.6. I was curious how much change there would be in the depth of field. Both handleld at 1/125.

I really like the way the M8 lifts the shadow values. If I were shooting film, with this same lens, the shadowed areas around the walls would show zip.

Here are the same images with Neat Image applied.

I got rid of mine cos it was too close to the 21mm setting on the WATE and I was trying to reduce the heft of my bag, but I miss it: it's a great great lens!

Well, I started reading this thread with some nervousness, dreading there might be a negative sting in the tail for the 24. I went through a lot of agonising before settling on the '24' as my 30% lens, but in my personal work I'm going to try and turn the clock back in my working method and see if I can just use this one lens. And it arrived this morning! And I'm reassured my camera is nearly here.

I have not shot 35mm for over 25 years, and my mainstay rangefinder roll-film cameras have been Plaubel Makina 6x7, Fuji 6x9, and Mamiya 7. I am blown away by how tiny this lens is, that's something I was not prepared for and conceptually, I'm staggered that such a tiny lens/camera package could be the replacement for those fantastic roll-film rangefinders.

Sorry for this self indulgence, but hey, I had to tell someone.

Chris, I *really* like this lens. It never misses. And there's so much detail in the M8 files that having to crop isn't so scary.

I use the 35 'lux asph and the 24 most of the time.

Here's one from my parking-lot-stroll at lunch time (you couldn't really sell tickets for this). 24mm, v1.102, Edmund's Tuned1, some wb (you know, I always have this card with me -- I've got to start using it!), and a slight drag down on the exposure curve. No NR.

Perhaps I should submit the pic to the tourist board. Fresh foliage, no need for a winter hat in this spring-like weather, no rain in sight.

Sorry, this is with the 50 'lux asph, at f8 at iso 160 and 1/1502 sec (that's what it says). Anyway, it's a pleasant day as the environs show.

The 24mm was a definite go-to lens with my M6 and 7. Also enjoying it on the M8 (when I get it back) but find the viewfinder a bit cluttered unfortunately with the 24 (and 35) so the 28 (once it's back!) will probably be my walk around lens. Anyway, here's what the 24 can really do. This on the M7 , Fuji NPH, Imacon scanned. Wide open or close to. It's an amazing lens, and blows both the Canon 24 1.4 and Nikon 24 f2 out of the water (both lenses I've owned and used considerably in the past).

Oh, and I bought it mint w/ finder for $1250 about 7 years ago when it was one of Leicas least popular lenses!
