platypus Posted July 24, 2014 Share #3 Posted July 24, 2014 Hi Neil, well I must admit to not being a guy...but I'll respond your query anyway. May I refer you to fotografr's (Brent's) post in the Photo Forum/Landscape section, titled "You're all Invited"....this will no doubt answer some of your questions and, if you still have queries, you could contact Brent or one of the printers he mentions that offer this service in the USA. Hope this helps!!.... oh gosh, Michael got his helpful advice in just ahead of mine!
stuny Posted July 24, 2014 Share #4 Posted July 24, 2014 Neil - As well as being a very talented photographer, Brent is a truly nice guy who is most willing to share information. I'm sure he'll answer your questions. You can see all 31 of the images in his show at Tracks in the Sand – Captured Memories of the Northern Oregon Coast Tamarack Studio & Gallery, and the prices are quite reasonable since Brent believes in making art accessible. South Bird Posted July 24, 2014 Share #5 Posted July 24, 2014 I do most of my prints on aluminum. There are several advantages. First, there seems to be more pop to the photo. You don't cover it with glass. You don't need a frame. The floating frame presents well. I've done color and black and white with equally good results. Finally they are reportedly moisture and humidity proof. The quality of the printer does matter. I went cheap once with a large online camera retailer and the quality and appearance suffered. Use a printer that only does aluminum prints and nothing else. The cost ends up being a little less than printing and framing with a traditional supplier. Try it. Guest Posted July 24, 2014 Share #6 Posted July 24, 2014 There was a show at the DB-Bank in Frankfurt with a large Richard Avedon print attached to an aluminium sheet. That print had started deteriorating.
