I continue to enjoy this new (used) lens. I previously owned a 90mm Elmarit that I sold for lack of use. I posted new photos from yesterday in the Street Photography section of this forum, some taken with the 75mm CV lens, and some taken with 35mm Cron ASPH. It's a very handy little piece of equipment. Thanks again to those who helped me go for it!

I shot a photo this evening of my spouse brushing her teeth with the CV 75mm wide open, and I'm pleased with the results. I focused on her right eye. When my focus is soft, it is mostly because of the challenge of nailing the focus. Granted, this lens is not as sharp as my 50mm Summilux ASPH wide open, but it is a very good performer, and it has a very pleasing bokeh. Yes, I have become a fan of this lens!

My next lens will be the CV 15mm. I think that will complete my kit.

Cheers!

I received one of these yesterday, just took a few shots out the door with the M8 to check focus and wow .Pixel peeping the contrast and sharpness wide open in the centre is outstanding yet the focus roll off really smooth. Straight away I got the impression this lens is right up there with my 28 Elmarit ASPH in terms of clarity, sharpness and contrast. I have shot film all year but these 2 lenses make such a neat set on the M8 I can see her getting much more use again.

For some reason my APO Lanthar 90 is definitely softer wide open in terms of contrast in comparison yet picks up loads once stopped down a bit, often however I have felt that this must be more to do with focus being slightly off or slight camera shake in low light etc. as I have images shot wide open where the focus zone is razor sharp. Its hard to know without rigorous scientific testing but its the impression I am left with.

Be careful with the adaptors as well. My copy seems to have spot on RF alignment on my M8 wide open which bodes well for my M6 (they seem to agree) BUT it definitely seems to focus slightly beyond infinity. Its odd even focusing on a house 100 yards away both the RF patch and the lens will go slightly further and the resulting image looks soft. I wonder how often guys using these screw lenses are falling foul of such effects.

100 yards is not 'infinity'.

The Voigtländer Color-Heliar 2.5/75mm.

A classical 6 element Double Gauss design with 6 elements in 5 groups. It looks like an older Tele-Elmarit 90mm f/2.8.  At full aperture we have a high contrast image with outstanding rendition of extremely fine detail on axis and a visible drop of quality in the outer zones where contrast drops, and outlines of fine detail become fuzzier. Corners are very soft and of low contrast.  At f/2.8 you do not note any improvement and at f/4.0 contrast improves. As with the Ultron the colour fringes at the edges of outlines and finer detail structures do not disappear until f/5.6, which is the optimum with an overall imagery of very high order; extremely fine detail is rendered crisply over the whole image field excepting the outermost corners.

Close up performance is OK and on the same level as at infinity.

This general performance is comparable to the older Tele-Elmarit 90mm f/2.8 and a class behind the current 90mm f/2.8.

I also compared the Summilux 75mm f/1.4, stopped down to f/2.4.  Here the Summilux performs at its optimum and we see exceedingly fine detail crisply rendered with high edge definition and contrast over the whole image field. The Color-Heliar is a strong performer in itself, but the f/2.5 performance is below the level defined by the Summilux-M.
