Mis-numbered IIIf

I recently picked up a Leica IIIf on ebay. It was listed as an Ic (with the serial number to match) but the exterior is definitly from a IIIf. There are no viewfinders at the top and the slow shutter dial in the front is there (as it normally isn't on a Ic). I've looked at the different indicators for a counterfeit Leica but all seems to check out. The serial number on it is 522900 which, according to the list on this Forum, is a Ic. What are the chances this is indeed a counterfeit? Did they do factory upgrades from the Ic to the IIIf?? The exterior is quite clean on it. I have not been able to test it fully as I bought it without a lens. The seller on ebay didn't have more information and were (I believe) still under the impression it was an Ic.

I have a IIIf that has the serial number from a IIIa. Leica used to take older models and "upgrade" them to a newer model, even though from IIIa to IIIf required basically all new parts and case. When it was sent back as an upgraded or "repaired" camera with the old serial number no additional import duties would be collected, as the serial matched the one sent in for service.
