It was delivered with firmware 1.092. I upgraded this to 1.102. I put on my default 28mm (with B+W IR filter), set it to DNG with ISO at 640, lifted it to my eye, focused, locked exposure in a high / mid zone of the frame, composed and took a picture. I checked the histogram to see if exposure was OK (I always have 3 second preview + histogram). Two minutes later I had this shot of my friend Steve.No other adjustment needed. No problems. OK - I used one or my existing batteries, but I've now given the new one a complete charge / discharge / charge cycle and this is fine too. It's a Leica image. The M8 works. How nice. I used two M6 bodies and later an M6 TTL + M7 for a range of reportage - so important to be able to shift between wide and long without swapping lenses (always remember the day I dropped my 90 cron onto concrete ... it survived better than my stopped heart did...). And hey, now I can work like that again and not have to face two days of scanning for every day's shoot! Thank you leica for giving me back the pleasure in photography. I don't want to re-open a bag of worms but in my experience (and according to Leica themselves) some of the asph lenses especially the 35 lux but also sometimes the 35 cron and even the 50 lux, have a design which when used on the M8 often leads to backwards focus shift as you stop down. There are a zillion threads on it here. But on the other hand, when you do get lenses you trust or have learned how to work with, the results are fab!
