OMG I've just had the most amazing Leica moment

I have had my Leica sitting in the dry box for over 6 months now due to frustrations from struggling with focusing my M plus Noctilux.

Well can you believe this. While I was out with my wife tonight having a coffee I tried my M with my reading glasses on..........Un$%$#$%$believable I nailed every shot in very poor light. It was like chalk and cheese taking pictures.

I will go to the opticians tomorrow and get some progressive glasses made just for shooting Leica.

The pictures attached are right out of the camera just reduced in size to put on this site and no care when shooting to get the composition correct

One happy Leica shooter..........now need to go and buy something new for the M or Noctilux:D

I prefer a diopter correction on the camera to using progressive spectacles. It's not easy to put the camera to the correct spot on your glasses for two meters distance so I take them off when shooting. If you buy a diopter correction lens you must try it in the shop to find the right strength. The downside is that the other eye doesn't know what's going on.

Why not just get a diopter for the M's viewfinder?

BTW...nice shots

Vickery

I have tried Leica Diopters, I tried an after market adjustable diopter and all have failed (whether it was me that failed or the diopters that failed thats another question) I tried them and they didn't work for me. What happened for me tonight was like switching a light on........I am excited:):):)

Ummm...for how long have we been saying this on the forum? ;)
Jaaap you have told me numerous times and I have for whatever reason ignore your advice..............my bad, glasses it is and maybe a nice wee Monochrom to go with them and of course a red jacket for the MM

Great, but hmmm...progressive glasses?

Seems like an extended form of GAS attack...:D

Please provide feedback - I can *see* that the passing of time (and the time spent in front of computer screens) are definitely not helping my ability to focus either...

Let me add something to this magical Leica/Neil moment:) The glasses that I had with me yesterday were made for me about 3 months ago for my work (they are called office/computer glasses) they were made to help me see the computer but to also make everything clear around me up to 10 feet...........I was told that there would be no need to take my glasses off if someone came into my office to talk with me or during meetings.

My other progressive glasses were made for me to walk around all day with and for driving but I only ever wear them for driving.......I don't like them for walking around (make me feel funny) but for driving they feel great.

I will have a little experiment this morning once I am fully awake and try my camera with all three sets and see if they all make an improvement or only the ones that I had on yesterday. Whatever ones make the best for focusing I will have another set made with a glass that will be up to the banging and knocking of the glass on the camera eyepiece and maybe a wee bitty deeper to aid finding the sweet spot.

Progressive means you will need to use lower area of lens, ie tilt head back. not a good solution.

Get the 1.25 magnifier and +1 diopter.

The magnifier makes the image larger, around .85 and a + allows tired eyes to focus closer.

You made need something stronger than +1.

Progressives take some getting used to specially if you are nearsighted. Farsighted people have less trouble. In either case, the reading area is below pupil line of sight straight on so it is the same as bifocal.

I have tried the Leica Diopter and they didn't work for me and the adjustable diopter that I bought made the rang finder darker.............I will stick with what worked yesterday............at least for now

I guess I missed the past debate...but why would you think you could nail focus w/o your glasses on? It seems this is pretty obvious.

On another note, I spent several hundred on the Walter RX eyepiece and while it works great...having to remove my glasses every time I shoot is a pain. It ended up in a box after a day of use.

Very excited for you Neil

Being older (than dirt) "outgrew" diopters as needed more correction. Then used my progressives which have worked well.

Same as you the magnifiers Leica sells don't work for me, tried them twice. That's why there are other alternatives

As for your computer glasses working, believe Leica rangefinder is the equivalent of 6 or more feet. Jaap or someone else can confirm the hypothetical distance looking through the viewfinder. If the perceived distance is within your computer glass range, that would explain your sudden success.

Either way your progressives should work too.

Ed
