Is OKARO contrast filter useful?

Could users of the tiny, orange, slip-on OKARO contrast filter (for the rangefinder of many screwmount cameras such as the IIIf) please advise - is it useful, and in what conditions?

I just paid a high price for one of these unusual little accessories, and while waiting for it, would appreciate user feedback.

Are there any replica OKAROs being sold by one of the Asian photo accessory manufacturers?

When CLEAN (many used OKARO are at risk of hazyness) it is rather useful expecially in low light/low contrast scenes (interiors), while, as natural, can be annoying in sceneries with strong direct light (as always, one more piece of glass can have collateral effects).

I doubt that chinese 3rd parties have "cloned" it... it's just for SM bodies which, honestly, haven't anymore such a large users base... :o

Finally... I hope that ordering yours you have kept attention it's really an OKARO and not an ORAKO...

It's most useful when your rangefinder gets a little dull with age. I found that the extra contrast in my IIIf's viewfinder made all the difference between focussing correctly and not. Of course it would be better to send the camera for a CLA but this lets you keep using it while you find the right moment.

Pete.
