barjohn Posted June 16, 2014 Author Share #22 Posted June 16, 2014 If it were a spring bar, yes, but not if it were a threaded bar with threads at the two ends and a slot on one end for a jeweler's screwdriver.

Louis Posted June 19, 2014 Share #24 Posted June 19, 2014 I would be very happy if someone in China makes a pin on which we can use a normal strap! They don't care about the patent and they can sell it like peanuts for $5! I hope they hear me!
vikasmg Posted June 20, 2014 Share #25 Posted June 20, 2014 Beaches, sunshine, machine shop with precision equipment, Leica cameras - you live a magical existence.
barjohn Posted June 20, 2014 Author Share #26 Posted June 20, 2014 Southern California beach communities are among the finest in the world, whether it is Malibu, Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Manhattan Beach, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Dana Point, or my little town of San Clemente. Beautiful California girls, sunshine, waves to surf or ocean to sail and great shopping and restaurants. Come visit, we also have Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, Legoland, Sea World and more. This is a magical place to live. Unfortunately, it is not cheap with homes running from $400 per square foot to over $1,000 per square foot. Hope to see you here taking photos! vikasmg Posted June 20, 2014 Share #27 Posted June 20, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) $400 to $1000? That's a LOT cheaper than here. Also I believe a lot cheaper than Mumbai, HK, probably Shangahai ... I should sell our place and come out there and retire if I wasn't worried about the usual 'god what do I do after I retire'! barjohn Posted June 20, 2014 Author Share #28 Posted June 20, 2014 There you go! I was going to say it would probably look cheap compared to some high cost areas in the EU or Asia which is why so many Chinese are buying here now.

IkarusJohn Posted June 26, 2014 Share #30 Posted June 26, 2014 Any one have any recommendations for a wrist strap replacement? The Leica T wrist strap is made of the same silicon as the neck strap, and it grips (as everyone is complaining). If I'm going to dismantle the wrist strap, I'd like to end up with a nice end result. I like the Barton 1972 braided straps on my M9 and Monochrom, and I have a Gordy wrist strap on my M3. Artisan and Artist seem to make a very plain wrist strap (no silk cord or anything like that). Barton does a braidy, but it doesn't seem to be available at the moment. Anyone have any other suggestions? I'm tempted to make one myself.

IkarusJohn Posted June 27, 2014 Share #32 Posted June 27, 2014 Follow this tread from the top :-) What? I think you may have misunderstood my question. I have the existing wrist strap, and I fully understand what John proposed for removing the connection. I have looked at my wrist strap, and cutting off the existing strap is relatively easy. What I am looking for is a nice strap, with a 3/8" width I can then attach to the connection. I'm not looking to buy property in Southern California :-) What I'm looking for is a nice strap I can dismantle and attach to the Leica attachment. I haven't seen any such recommendations here, yet. I have contacted Barton, asking if they can supply the braidy, and I have also asked Lance of Lance Camera Straps if he can supply his wrist strap without the ring and with the leather strap at the end unstitched (in the right width) so I can attach the Leica pin. Do you have an alternative wrist strap recommendation? Cheers John
vikasmg Posted June 27, 2014 Share #33 Posted June 27, 2014 Ah, sorry for the misunderstanding. No, unfortunately not. So far, on the M, I have been using one of those Luigi cases and it came with a leather strap. It's been perfect for me. Strong, comfortable and flexible enough to sometimes wrap around my hand and use as a hand strap. In not sure if Luigi sells just the straps but without removing the pins holding the strap it would be impossible to use one of those straps.
barjohn Posted June 27, 2014 Author Share #34 Posted June 27, 2014 I would suggest that you cut off the silicon strap and then send it to one of the companies that has a strap you like and have them attach it to the pin just as the now do on the split ring. For them to create the leather piece ⅜" wide and threaded through the protective cover should not be that difficult and then they sew it and finish it. You would then have your ideal custom strap. Another option is to go to a shoe repair shop and have a custom made strap. Here is Gordy straps that could be easily custom sewn on the Leica lug pin. On this one you would not be able to use the cover but you probably wouldn't need it. Here is another one that could probably be custom attached. IkarusJohn Posted June 27, 2014 Share #35 Posted June 27, 2014 Hi John, Yes. That's true. However, I am very confident I can get a good result with an awl. I don't really want to put the manufacturer out more than I need to. I have a couple of Gordy straps, and a Luigi strap - I'm looking for something a bit different to that. I think I will go with the Lance standard, as discussed. I'l post a picture here when I get it done. Cheers John

vikasmg Posted June 27, 2014 Share #37 Posted June 27, 2014 Yes, Monaco seems way more expensive than anything else. So it must have a Leica shop in every neighbourhood :-|
farnz Posted June 28, 2014 Share #38 Posted June 28, 2014 … Barton does a braidy, but it doesn't seem to be available at the moment. Anyone have any other suggestions? I'm tempted to make one myself. John, I use a Barton "Linky" that sits flat on the wrist owing to the leather links. I find to be more comfortable than the Barton Braidy, the A&A leather wrist strap, the Optech wrist strap, Mr Zhou's leather wrist strap or Luigi's leather wrist strap. I've tried quite a few wrist straps including some noname brands over the years (although not a Gordy's so far) and the Linky remains my firm favourite. For some strange reason I've never been able to find any details about the Linky on the Barton website hence the link to the Flickr picture above. The Linky is available from Red Dot Cameras's website and I would have posted a link to a picture there but the website is down for maintenance at the moment. (I have no connection to Red Dot other than as a satisfied customer.)
