Anyone got a black camera yet?

I may have missed it - I'm not as frequent a visitor as I used to be - but when are black cameras expected to be available? Of course, that has to be taken with a pinch of salt, expecially if you are also waiting for an M lens adapter and EVF as well.

I have a black camera on order - though mainly for M lens use - and I'm wondering how the black anodising will stand up to wear and tear along those sharp edges. Anyone got any experience?

No knowledge to add to your question Mark, but I just wanted to say you have been missed.

Are the wrist straps and the aluminum holster available in the UK? I have not been able to find either in the US.

Leather holster and bag here (I have both), not hunted for straps yet .... but I could do with a wrist strap ..... and as Leica have craftily limited me to their offerings I will have to find one.

The holster is surprisingly well designed and functional ..... but I feel a bit of a prat wearing it ..... makes you look a bit like someone going to a Star Trek Convention ...... I'll have to get some pointy ears and complete the look .....

Same down on this end of the planet, Mark.

Black bodies not to arrive until July, and the entire shipment here has been pre-sold. The next shipment after that is months away. Accessories were available and delivered here with the first shipment, released on 26 May. I was impressed that the camera, kit zoom, M adapter and Visoflex were all delivered on the first day - most un-Leica-like!

Cheers

John

Still trying to decide if the T will fit into my extensive inventory and two M-240 kit. Have the RX-1 which is my AF go to street use camera. Zoom AF lenses could be useful. Black is my favorite color Leica.

  • 3 weeks later...

Leica Store in Miami received some Black Ts on Friday. All were preordered. So that qualifies as "the end of June" which is faster than "July"

The photos shown elsewhere on this site make Black look pretty good.

Received my pre-ordered one in Frankfurt yesterday. One week earlier than expected. I think the black body harmonizes better with the black display and the lens.

Hi Mark

I hope you're well

I had a black camera to test in the first instance. I had it for about 3 months, and amongst other things it did a sandy trip to Lanzarote. It's not my job to treat test cameras with kid gloves (and I don't :).

When the camera went back to Leica I was not aware of any marks on the metal body, and no sign of wear at the corners. It looked brand new.

I've ordered a black one myself (haven't got it yet though!)

Good to hear the black T stood up to Jono's testing...

Picking mine up on Saturday with EVF and M adapter. Not buying any lenses yet, heaven knows I have enough M lenses and I'm hoping the small-wides will work well with it and be reasonable to handle.

We're back to the old M8 crop factor of course.

In the end though, I expect I will buy one or more zooms but I need first to prove it's right for me.

I had a chance to use the M adaptor with a Noctiflex and my 28mm..while I didn't spend much time, my first impression was that focus was a bit hard and it helped to open up the lense to do so.

i like the autofocus modes on the T and would miss that with the M adaptor..If I didn't have any other M bodies and had the lenses, I would get it but makes little sense for me.

But upon reviewing image quality with the M adaptor and the Nocti and the 28mm, they were very very good.

HI there Mark

I hope you like it! Give it some time, this is one camera which certainly has a place in my kit.

As for the crop factor - it's more than the M8 of course - but I like it - your 75 'cron is suddenly a 110 'cron - which is an interesting and different lens. The wides seem to work, but if I'm going to shoot wide I'd rather use the M.

If someone said to me "is it a good backup for an M" then I'd say NO - but it's a really good companion to an M

HI There

Practice is the word.

It took me years to learn how to focus really well with a rangefinder - it's taken months to learn how to focus well with an EVF - just for a tryout I shot a wedding last weekend (not officially).. I shot the whole thing with the T and my Noctilux wide open (grey day). I didn't use focus assist (zoom) at all (I had the second dial set to exposure compensation, which was much more useful).

All the best
