Jon Warwick Posted June 3, 2014 Share #1 Â Posted June 3, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) hi, regarding second-hand Leica products ..... i ocassionally see things available (I'm most interested in a used version of one of the latest Digital Ms) from decent shops in the UK. Â If there is still remaining time on a 2-year Leica UK warranty left to run on a Leica rangefinder, can that remaining time definitely be transferred to the "incoming" owner in the used market? Â Does the same apply for any remaining time on a 1-year UK Passport? Â If the above is possible, and if there was still Leica UK Warranty available, how does it get transferred to the incoming owner so that it's definitely "your" warranty? Anything to watch out for there? Â If anything goes wrong with the camera during the remaining Warranty time, can one send it directly to Germany for repair (or via Leica Mayfair), or does it all have to be processed by the dealer you originally bought it from? pgk Posted June 3, 2014 Share #2 Â Posted June 3, 2014 Passport warranties are transferable - hence their name! But why don't you ask Leica Mayfair as they will be best placed to give you full details and explain the relevant procedures? You might also query whether you, as a second owner, can apply for the extra warranty extension that a first owner can. Lastly, repairs can be handled via Germany, but Mayfair will supply shipping labels in order for the equipment to be sent from yourself direct to Germany (at least that's my experience). Â The camera comes with a warranty card that if it has been registered is filled out in the original owners name. There is a place to fill in the new owners name and you send the card along with a copy of your invoice to an address in somewhere like Hemel Hempstead but don't quote me on that. You get a new Passport card in return with your name on it. If you need to claim or have work done the best thing is to take your camera to a Leica Dealer and have them do all the shipping and paperwork.
