I went on a 11-say trip to Northern Ethiopia in April. One of the most fascinating places I have ever visited is the Danakil Depression also know as Afar Depression. Nat Geo called this the cruellest place on Earth.

The Depression is about 100m + below sea level and is part of the African Rift valley. Temperature here can go up to 55 deg C. When we drove through this desert the temperature reached 50+ deg C and the air-conditioning in our 4WD could not work properly.

The Afar people controlled the salt trade. Slabs of salt are cut from the ground and loaded onto camels to be transported to faraway markets.

For this trip, I have brought along my M240, M8 and A7R with an assortment of M and R lenses. Here are some images captured with M240/A7R/WATE/35-70VE.

A wonderful photo tour of that cruel desolate location. Absolutely perfect photography with the first, fourth and last pictures my favorite. These could easily be in the National Geographic Magazine.

Very beautiful work. If we are selecting favourites I plunk for the sixth image...due to it's strong composition.

Thanks. I managed to go across the other side in order to have the sunrise on my left to frame this composition. These camels walked very quickly and did not stop to pose for us!
