troyfreund Posted April 27, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted April 27, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, Hoping some of you fine minds can help me out. I've recently gotten a DMR and a used R8 to use with it. I put them together for the first time and am experiecing a queer problem. I can fire the rig from the top-panel shutter (by the shutter speed dial), but cannot activate the shutter with either of the DMR shutters. Any idea what's up? The display in the R8 is blue, if that makes any difference. Troy
Advertisement Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 Hi troyfreund, Take a look here R8/DMR shutter question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
troyfreund Posted April 27, 2007 Author Share #2 Â Posted April 27, 2007 OK, let me add to the problem now. The camer will fire on all three shutter-buttons, but won't automatically re-cock itself. I need to use the film advance lever to re-set the shutter. What's up with this? Troy
topoxforddoc Posted April 27, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted April 27, 2007 Troy, Â have you tried taking the DMR off the R8 and putting it back on? sometimes you need to clean the contacts on the R8. occasionally I've had my R9 lock up ad fir, but not recock. I have managed to fix it by reattaching the DMR Â Charlie
cmb_ Posted April 27, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted April 27, 2007 Troy, Â Make sure you correctly follow the instructions for attaching the DMR back, particularly the section entitled: Notes on the use of the rewind release button and the multiple exposure lever on page 76 of the English manual. Â Also, if you are using the quick wind lever to cock the shutter it must be returned completely otherwise the motor drive is deactivated (if the lever is in the ready position the motor drive will not function). Â Hope this helps.
heninden Posted April 27, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted April 27, 2007 Troy, Your R8 needs an update to its operating system. When I first got my DMR 16 months ago, I had similar problems. Call Leica service; describe the problems; send the whole outfit to them. Service is done in NJ and does not need the trip to Solms. It took three weeks for me to get the outfit back; but that was in the pre-M8 era. Henry
troyfreund Posted April 30, 2007 Author Share #6 Â Posted April 30, 2007 Thanks all for the info. Henry, did you have to pay for that upgrade? T
rsolomon Posted May 1, 2007 Share #7  Posted May 1, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) i have the R9 but understand that the R8's with smooth contacts (and not all of them do) also require and upgrade to contacts with the female dimple to receive the dmr contacts with full "contact/connection"  you should be able to look and easily tell the smooth verse dimple contacts   This is fully supported so there should be no charge in my opinion
