Hi, all - I just went back and looked at the lens specs for my old D2. They are:

Leica DC Vario-Summicron

• 3.2x zoom

• 28 - 90 mm equiv.

• F2.0 - F2.4

• 13 elements in 10 groups

Now that's a combo I could get behind again - speed and the ideal zoom range on a APS-C sensor.

Cheers,

Mike

It would be enormous, very heavy and to a stratosphérique price !

Let us not dream and let us make simply photos with the current material... ;)

Yes, sensor size does make a huge difference. My D2 still gives stunning results within its limitations (A4 is a good practical upper limit. Many illustrations require smaller sizes anyway which is why it is still an a excellent camera)

One of the best zooms ever made indeed. However, it was designed for a smaller sensor. On APS it would be really huge.

The lens in the D2 was big & heavy. the weight was the primary reason I sold the D2. Sensor size notwithstanding, I have a a 16 x20 print on my wall that is tack sharp from the D2.
