Leica T performs digital lens correction , a claim by dpreview.com

Sample file from dpreview.

Looks like at least 10% linear distortion.

In other words: The lens at wide angle position has uncorrected about 16mm focal length and would achieve 16 MP resolution, corrected 18mm and resolution goes down to about 14 MP.

Ok, that is what we call a 'kit lens'.

How is that possible with 10 elements in 7 groups?

It is quite possible if that is the tradeoff for optimally correcting high-order other aberrations. Distortion is the least destructive to correct in the digital processing. That way one can get an optimum result. Welcome to 2014.... How it has turned out will be documented in this forum in the coming months and years.

The Olympus OM 75-150 which in the past used the same technique to create a brilliant but strongly distorting (and thus unsuitable for some subjects) lens will do very well nowadays.

I don't think you're any of those things, but simply gather that you have a lot of brand loyalty.

So I have, but it is not brand-related. When building up a system of tools, not just cameras, I tend to stick to one brand as that usually works best together, in my experience.

I agree with that approach, but with relation to Leica for me it increasingly means enjoying the older equipment and the images it produces. It is with a similar interest that I continue to visit this forum, which means I really should slip out and stop my ranting on the T. My peeve is simply with the presentation of the latter, and a matter of personal impression.

As I said, for some - I'll happily grant you that that is the case for your use, but that does not make it an universal truth for others.

Not comparing usage by people I am comparing cameras:cool:

Without a person attached, all cameras are just dumb boxes that do nothing. What's your point?

Maybe it is hard for you to understand but the focusing system is slow but on par with top end point and shoot compcts

Yes, thank you Imants. I see it all so clearly now. I stepped through a hole in the time-space continuum and ended up on dpreview. Enjoy your adolescence. Bye!

How about other users who use M lenses solely on T body? AF is not an argument for some.

Expecting Af of Nikon D4X class on Barnack camera is silly. I would put 50mm optical viewfinder + 35 M-lens on T body and it gives you different experience.

I think too. T adapter to M mount supports 6 coding and you get some compatibility of Leica system.

Steve Huff is of different opinion :p Quote from him.

"As for getting back to the speed, the T is more responsive and faster to auto focus than the Leica X1, X2 and X-Vario. It is the fastest German-made Leica to date, and for me it is about the equivalent of Sony NEX or E-M5, a little bit faster than the Sony A7. So while not up there with an E-M1 it is very close to everything else when using the 18-56 Zoom (the only native lens I had to try)."

I didnt know that A7 is point and shoot compact camera. :o In theory prime lens makes af faster.

It looks like it has a way to read the 6 bit code but I see no mention of that info being collected or used in the adapter's description, "The adapter fully supports functions like exposure metering, aperture priority mode and manual settings." Basically all this says is it mounts the M lenses and has no other connection between the lens and the body.

While looking for info about the adapter, I was trapped by the prose on Leica's T site.

You gotta love the sheer enthusiasm that Leica projects for all of the "amazing" things they accomplished here. I love the over the top marketing hype but even the hardest core Leica lovers must have to suspend disbelief and just buy in. They are certainly trying to get people to emotionally bond with this and not question if anything left out will be missed.

"– and how Leica and the Leica T break entirely new ground in the world of photography. "

"Aluminium for the body. Pictures for the heart"

"Absolute perfection is only achieved when nothing more can be omitted." So how come they didn't omit the flash? Wifi control from a cell phone is now essential... especially with no wired or IR remote release available.

"Minimised, yet so perfect. Never before has taking pictures been this easy."
