topoxforddoc Posted April 27, 2014 Share #1 Posted April 27, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would like to pick the brains of M9 owners, if I may. I have not been able to trigger my Elinchrom flash using the Skyport trigger on my M9 hot shoe. The same trigger works fine on both my DMRs R8&R9. The Skyport is pushed fully into the hot shoe, and is not hanging part out. So I have to assume that the Shyport contacts are touching the hot shoe points. Any ideas? Advertisement Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Hi topoxforddoc, Take a look here M9 and Elinchrom Skyport. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wattsy Posted April 27, 2014 Share #2 Posted April 27, 2014 Faulty hotshoe? Does a bog standard flash gun trigger when fitted on your M9? Probably a stupid question but I assume you haven't forgotten to set the shutter speed to 1/180 or slower?
topoxforddoc Posted April 27, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted April 27, 2014 Ian, thanks. I have tried it with my 54MZ3. Took a lot of fiddling with the flash on the hot shoe to get it to work. I’ll try again with the Skyport. Charlie
topoxforddoc Posted April 27, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted April 27, 2014 Thanks. I finally got it to work. Obviously being recalcitrant!
hoppyman Posted April 28, 2014 Share #5 Posted April 28, 2014 Hi Charlie, you have this solved now? Probably holding your tongue the wrong way when using it? I have the Elinchrom Skyport Speed which works fine with the BRXI's and D-lites I have. The only (very occasional) fail to fires that I have seen are if I have displaced the transmitter slightly in the hot shoe with a lot of handling in a longer shoot or simple settings errors, also known as brain fades by operator ( as with other triggers of course.) I guess that I have shot maybe some thousands of frames with the M9 and now M (Typ 240) and this trigger now. Only problem is Elinchrom now have some some new strobes with more features I would like and cost more. There's a surprise for photo gear ;-)
topoxforddoc Posted April 29, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted April 29, 2014 Hi Geoff, I’m sorted now. I had pushed the Skyport into the M9 hotshoe fully, but it needed a bit of a twiddle to get it to fire. I had no problems with my DMRs on R8 & R9. Anyway, it’s all good now. I changed my strobes recently. I had a pair of Elinchrom EL-500s, which were great, but a pain to lug around. So I took the plunge and bought a new Elinchrom Quadra Hybrid Li-ion set with 2 action heads and a new Gossen Digisky meter (which has a built in Elinchrom wireless trigger). Just getting to grip with the new Quadras, which are great. Bit plasticky compared to the EL500s, but really light and truly portable.
