NJH Posted April 21, 2014 Share #1 Posted April 21, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Don't under any circumstances get the idea to remove some light scratches from the screen with plastic polish, ask me how I know I happened to have some sat around that I use occasionally for polishing the acrylic crystals on old watches (Hesalite is one well known version). The temptation was there and for sure yes it does seem to work. It also though removed some of what looked like a fine anti-reflective coating they have put on the surface of the plastic leaving my lovely M8 with a blotchy looking screen. Its fine when viewing images or menus in normal light but looks a mess when the screen is off. Just as well the thing works fine as it looks like she is staying put for some time to come. NJH Posted April 21, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted April 21, 2014 Well I was wondering if selling the thing was the right thing to do, I need to sell something as I bought a 0.85x M7 and then a Bessa 4A for wide angle film stuff leaving me pretty broke. As it is I don't feel to sad to keep her as she is the best digital camera I have had.
tobey bilek Posted May 3, 2014 Share #6 Posted May 3, 2014 I buy cell phone protectors, cut to size, then apply. Works for Nikons. I received a Gillotos glass as a gift and it has been sticking to my M8 for years. Cell phone thingy does not stick to sapphire glass M9P. Maybe two days. That camera goes bare. NJH Posted May 3, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted May 3, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) As an update a friend suggested I continue polishing to remove the AR coating on the plastic. The funny thing is I have got most of it off and doesn't look that bad now, much the same as the rear screen on my X100 for example which doesn't seem to have a coating or many other cameras for that matter. Compared to the robustness of the film bodies it seems really really daft to me that they decided to put an AR coating on a large soft bit of plastic on the back of the camera. AR coating on plastic are done all the time. Think of sunglasses and glasses.
