miami91 Posted April 26, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted April 26, 2007 Good news indeed. I've been eagerly awaiting this update. Â Jeff.
Patrickxyz Posted April 26, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted April 26, 2007 Version 3.7.7 is out already. It supports the Digilux 3 and it has a new profile "Leica M8 generic UV-IR". Â Patrick

spylaw4 Posted April 27, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted April 27, 2007 It's not specifically stated on the release note but I wonder if it will now support the L1 ?
miami91 Posted April 27, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted April 27, 2007 Not sure about the L1. As for the Digilux 3, I'm not having any luck getting it to recognize the D3 raw files --- they are conspicuously absent in the thumbnail pane when I select a folder of images. My JPGs and TIFFs show up, but the RAWS don't. I posted a help request on the C1 website, so we'll see if any suggestions are forthcoming. Â This is the first I've used C1, given that I don't own an M8. I've looked through the preferences and other settings, and don't see anything that I need to "activate". I trust if it's working properly, the raw files would appear in the same manner as jpgs and tiffs. Frustrating. Â I'm using a fully licensed version of Capture One LE for OSX, upgraded to 3.7.7. I also downloaded a trial of Capture One Pro, and the results were the same. Anyone have any suggestions? Â Jeff.
sean_reid Posted April 27, 2007 Author Share #7 Â Posted April 27, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm not sure what is going on but I have 3.7.7 open as I write and it is recognizing the D3 files. I'm using XP but I believe they did release for both platforms. Â Cheers, Â Sean
miami91 Posted April 27, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted April 27, 2007 Sean, Â Yes, they did release for both platforms --- the release notes for the Mac version clearly states support for the D3. But the images don't show up. Very puzzling. Â Jeff.
karlitos Posted April 27, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted April 27, 2007 It may be a Mac issue. Now have my update running on XP and it works a treat. Very happy now that C1 supports the D3. The more I use the D3 the more I'm surprised by how goood it can be. Â Â Karlitos.
rosuna Posted April 27, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted April 27, 2007 Capture One 4 should have been released, isn't?
karlitos Posted April 27, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted April 27, 2007 Sean, A bit OT I know (in fact quite a bit!) but have you found the need to sharpen the D3 images quite aggressively. I have two D3's for comparison and results are generally good but in some situations you wouldn't expect they need to be sharpended a lot. I wonder if the AF is a little hit or miss. Â Â Many thanks Karlitos.
sean_reid Posted April 27, 2007 Author Share #12 Â Posted April 27, 2007 Hi Karlitos, Â I just yesterday finished preparing a bunch of pictures for the D3 review. I left the standard CS2 sharpening as is (25?) when converting from RAW and then used Photokit Capture Sharpener for capture sharpening. That does the trick and is useful for many cameras that have stronger AA filters. I discuss this in the review. Â Cheers, Â Sean

miami91 Posted April 27, 2007 Share #14  Posted April 27, 2007 Well, bad news for Mac users --- 3.7.7 does not support the Digilux 3. Here is the response I got from Phase One customer support:  <quote> i am very sorry to inform you this, but the 3.7.7 for MAc does not support the Digilux 3. (it works on the Windows version) it should have and we expected it to, but somewhere it messed up, and te support was not implimented properly, we are very sory about this!  Kind regards  Phase One Customer Support <end quote>  This is very disappointing! I hope that they fix whatever the problem is in a forthcoming release. They really ought to remove the reference to the D3 in the Mac release notes and documentation as well.  Jeff. miami91 Posted April 27, 2007 Share #17 Â Posted April 27, 2007 Thanks Sean. I sent a reply through the Phase One customer support interface asking for clarification on whether/when they would fix this issue. I'm assuming it's a matter of when, and not if they will fix it. I'll post their response once I've received it. Â Jeff.

I have two D3's for comparison and results are generally good but in some situations you wouldn't expect they need to be sharpended a lot. I wonder if the AF is a little hit or miss. Â Â Many thanks Karlitos. Â I can say that for the initial release of the L1 (the D3's genetic donor) with firmware V1.10 i was never happy with a. the sharpness of in-camera jpegs b. the sharpness of the standard raw c. the colour/sparkle/....Leica glow signature was barely alive. Â But now with Firmware V2.00 .....whaaa-hooooeeeee!!!!!! Â The L1 is now builds upon the original D2 signature image and is ever so nice in all aspects of both jpegs and raw, that i listed above. Â Before V2.00 firmware, i would grab either my D2 or L1, depending on which was closer. Now i purposely take the L1. (my D2 has become my break-down backup to the L1)

I would like to see a D3 FW update reasonably soon (I'm not holding my breath!) because there are some factors that need a little 'ironing'. Thanks for your insight. Â Karlitos. Â BTW Am I the only one who is irritated by the 'max 99 frame counter in the VF' Not life or death I know, just seems really daft. (yes, I know that won't be a FW fix!!)
miami91 Posted April 28, 2007 Share #20 Â Posted April 28, 2007 Karlitos, Â Yes, the potential discrepency between the frame counter in the VF (two digit) and the one on the rear LCD (3 digit) is irritating. Lately I've got around it by shooting RAW (with a 2 GB card, can't get more than 80 odd shots anyway). But if the coming firmware update really improves JPEG quality, I will be tempted to return to shooting JPEGs. Â Other than the odd bits and bobs though, I think it's a great camera. Â Jeff.
