2wk Posted April 14, 2014 Share #3 Posted April 14, 2014 Not me. I like not having to think about what lenses to take...just throw it in the bag. I definitely don't want to invest in more lenses for Aps-C. For me, the Vario is a perfect addition to my M system. I don't want a whole other kit. That being said, the unibody looks nice. I imagine a similar body construction will be incorporated on the M of the future.
rjans Posted April 14, 2014 Share #4 Posted April 14, 2014 I'm pleased with the X Vario, I still use from time to time my M8 and have no intention to buy the T, already have to much different gear. Best
Guytou Posted April 14, 2014 Share #5 Posted April 14, 2014 I prefer to photograph new interesting subjects and I am very happy with my X Vario ! Guy
jaapv Posted April 14, 2014 Share #6 Posted April 14, 2014 Totally different concept. I expect only few replacement sales; different customer bases.
Phil75 Posted April 14, 2014 Share #7 Posted April 14, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am happy with the package and quality and not having to carry with me several lenses. Maybe that changes once again in the future. For now I am looking for a small companion that fits in a pocket, therefore waiting for X2 prices to drop or the successor with a better screen. Kyros Moutsouris Posted April 14, 2014 Share #8 Posted April 14, 2014 It's probably targeted at people who will want to upgrade from their current NEX system to Leica. It's not an easy task as current APS-C cameras combined with appropriate lenses they do deliver. Now if this camera comes with presets for the available wide lenses and ultra wides then it will make a difference. So I believe that X-Vario is a keeper. jaapv Posted April 14, 2014 Share #9 Posted April 14, 2014 Actually I think the Vario is a pretty good, albeit understated, camera and that the present owners are too busy enjoying it to hanker after (presumed) greener pastures
barjohn Posted April 14, 2014 Author Share #10 Posted April 14, 2014 What if they offered a Leica quality zoom similar to the Fuji with an f2.8 to f4 and 28m to 85mm? The primes would be faster of course but for the one lens person, having a faster zoom would be very nice. Also suppose they managed to get the Panasonic fast AF in this camera, how would that influence your decision?

I think I'm going to postpone the answer to that until some answers are in.
waloszek Posted April 14, 2014 Share #12 Posted April 14, 2014 According to leicarumors it will be a Leica VARIO-ELMAR-T ASPH 18-56mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom lens (27-84mm equivalent). So there is no need to speculate about a f2.8 to f4 lens and about how it would impact the buying decision... By the way, I do not plan to switch (but you never know...). Best regards, Gerd
barjohn Posted April 14, 2014 Author Share #13 Posted April 14, 2014 I am aware of the Leica Rumors speculation. My question was just to see if a faster zoom would influence the buy decision. How good the "kit" lens will be remains to be seen. Presumably they will at some point offer a lens better than the kit lens.
mjh Posted April 14, 2014 Share #14 Posted April 14, 2014 Nobody in his or her right mind would even consider exchanging an X Vario for a camera and lens they know nothing about as yet. Once the specs are published it might make sense to ask this question, but not now.

How good the "kit" lens will be remains to be seen. Presumably they will at some point offer a lens better than the kit lens. I think you overrate the value of a fast lens vastly. Clean high ISO makes an extra investment both in money and weight/size far less attractive than it was before.
miatadan Posted April 15, 2014 Share #16 Posted April 15, 2014 With this stated on Leica Rumours " The new Leica T lenses will not have aperture rings and will be made by Panasonic " makes me lose interest in the new T. Lenses made by Panasonic , I have no interest in. I always believed quality lenses are more important than the camera body itself. Reviews of the X Vario state the lens on the X Vario is a true Leica lens and is the quality Leica is known for. and in review on reddotforum.com quote " I can verify that the lens is indeed a real Leica lens, a real Karbe design, and just really, really good. In my actual testing I couldn’t find too many faults with the lens, if at all. The Vario-Elmar lens offers extremely solid quality with no visible distortion along with sharpness at every focal length and aperture setting. I don’t have specs or MTF charts to back up this claim, but after taking over 1,000 shots I’m confident in my analysis. While some may deride Leica’s choice to sacrifice max aperture in favor of optical quality, I’ll take performance any day of the week. Ultimately, do you want a lens that looks good on paper, or one that produces stunning images? I’ll take the latter, thank you very much. Gobdulm Posted April 15, 2014 Share #17 Posted April 15, 2014 I bought the XV three months ago. I think with their virtues and their defects in general is a good camera. I'm nothing whimsical, must be that I am not a millionaire. I have camera for several years, then we'll see.
colonel Posted April 16, 2014 Share #18 Posted April 16, 2014 Will many plan to sell the XV to purchase a new T? Do you expect it to fix some of the issues with the XV? The XV is a fixed lens camera that will be more compact and also cheaper Not sure a T substitutes
XVarior Posted April 16, 2014 Share #19 Posted April 16, 2014 I won't change for the T, or the M, the MM or any exchangeable lens system. I may only change it for another XVario
dunos Posted April 17, 2014 Share #20 Posted April 17, 2014 I won't change for the T, or the M, the MM or any exchangeable lens system. I may only change it for another XVario Agreed. I specifically moved away from interchangeable lens cameras when I realised I was only really using one lens anyway. I wonder how many people buy interchangeable lens cameras from Canon and Nikon and then never remove the kit lens.
