stevesurf Posted April 18, 2014 Author Share #41 Posted April 18, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Back on track to the original post. It seems that not only is the camera industry in a recession but the websites that are camera related are probably seeing less traffic and interest. It seems to me that there is not a lot of reason for camera nerds to bring up camera sites because, not much that is significant is being presented. Digital camera technology is becoming boring. There are so many cameras that are capable of great images. Maybe, we are back to the point where creativity and art are the most important aspects of photography. And this is going to be a serious problem for about 98% of the posters on the internet who buy cameras to test them against the previous versions and revel in having something significantly better. It now seems, it just doesn't matter. Good photographs can certainly be made with about any good camera and that includes MFT. Which means, the camera industry and the websites are going into a deep recession. Great lenses seem to be a constant... and the cameras that allow you to shoot them... like the M240:D Well said; I am wondering if more of those posters will come to realization that the lens and sensor (or film) need be considered as a system, first. The "system camera" and some mirror less cameras may offset part of this, but there is no stopping the short term effects of the many tablets and smartphones that are disrupting this business. If only it were important again to enlarge a print and hang some art at home, many will some to the fast realization that you need a decent sensor and glass to achieve this. algrove Posted April 18, 2014 Share #42 Posted April 18, 2014 Rick I need a new camera to kick start my so-so images. Wait a minute I did that and sent the body and one lens back just before the 30 day limit saying it did not work with my 28 Summicron M. Then I bought a different body and decided to keep it since it DID work with my 28 Summicron M. In all seriousness, the best money spent for better images is traveling with your favorite kit, period. I guess I should start traveling instead of sitting in front of this monitor day after day.

I guess I should start traveling instead of sitting in front of this monitor day after day. I agree. We are at the point (past the point?) where all of us here can just go out and create and enjoy making photographs... which I know you do. You travel and attend more workshops than anyone I know... Your last SouthWest photographs are excellent. I know you don't sit in front of the computer day after day. I think I'll take a creative vacation from this site for a while. rob_w Posted April 19, 2014 Share #46 Posted April 19, 2014 I was recently helping a friend who wanted to get into photography, starting with a basic SLR or equivalent. It pretty soon became clear that the friend had to budget for post-processing software (e.g. Lightroom) and a good computer and screen (ideally, calibrated) to process and view the results. The camera was less than half the budget, by the time we did the calculations. And if you aim to have one high quality fixed-focal-length lens rather than the kit zoom, the camera body itself becomes an even smaller proportion of the total. That's a lot less income to the camera industry as far as developing new bodies is concerned.
