dfarkas Posted April 25, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 25, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've been saying I was going to do my own profile for the M8... so here it is. This is for use with Leica M8 firmware v1.102 and the Leica branded UV/IR filters. It was created using Gretag Eye-One XT Match v3, a color checker SG, and shot in studio with Profoto strobes. I used it in C1 LE and it looks a lot better than the Leica M8 Generic. http://www.dalelabs.com/David/David's Leica M8 Profile (IR filter - v1.102).icc Download it and let me know what you think. Thanks, David

misterc Posted April 25, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 25, 2007 Hi David your profile sounds great !! I have tried it with IR filters and skin tones are far more neutral. Good job Thank you Alain

dfdann Posted April 26, 2007 Share #5 Posted April 26, 2007 How does it work with an un-coded 35mm Cron, with and without the Leica IR filter? Thanks, Dan
dfarkas Posted April 26, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted April 26, 2007 Hi Dan, The uncoded 35 will have the same color rendition except for the corners, which may have some slight cyan vignetting when using IR filters (with any profile). You best results will be with the Leica IR filter (and 6-bit coding), but I tried the profile with older files that were taken with no filter and they did look better than the C1 M8 generic profile. So, give it a shot and see if it works for you. Hope all is well, David

Guest guy_mancuso Posted April 26, 2007 Share #11 Posted April 26, 2007 It seems a little warm but i want to try some other images also.
thomasmartinledford Posted April 26, 2007 Share #12 Posted April 26, 2007 Hey, David -- Thanks! Beautiful (and authentic) colors on landscape work I shot yesterday with the 35mm (coded) and Leica IR filter. Indoor group shots are also spot-perfect. Much appreciated. dfarkas Posted April 26, 2007 Author Share #13 Posted April 26, 2007 Guy, I'm going to try and take another look at the profile. The Eye-One XT has the ability to measure exact color temperature of lighting (both hot lights and strobes). Yesterday, I just set the software to D55. I might try to get the exact measurement, which may be +/- 200 deg K. This could account for any discrepancy in color. When I white balance my images in C1, I tend to do it by eye on my calibrated screen, not just use the eyedropper. And, yes, I do tend to prefer slightly warmer skin tones. Either way, I'll take a look. Thanks for the feedback. David
Guest guy_mancuso Posted April 26, 2007 Share #14 Posted April 26, 2007 David it seems i get better results in C1 at about 5200 kelvin for some reason with any profile. It seems this is pretty normal like the DMR was also about a 200 degree difference from the warm side.
AGeoJO Posted April 26, 2007 Share #15 Posted April 26, 2007 Thank you, David. I downloaded played with it last nig. It seems nice and indeed a tad warmer than the generic profile only in comparison. It renders skin tone just fine though.
Jamie Roberts Posted April 26, 2007 Share #16 Posted April 26, 2007 It's interesting, but I find all the GM / xRite generated (as opposed to hand-created) profiles somehow really off in the upper highlights, especially in skin tones As the oil on the skin in the upper midtones makes a specular highlight, the contrast is lost in these GM profiles (including the ones I generated myself). If you flip between C1 profiles and the GM profiles, you'll see the difference. Otherwise, on the color side, the profile looks very good. Always great to have another "look"! dfarkas Posted April 27, 2007 Author Share #17 Posted April 27, 2007 Okay. I updated the profile a bit. It is a little cooler and very slightly brighter. Give it a whirl. http://www.dalelabs.com/David/David's Leica M8 Profile v2 (IR filter - v1.102).icc David

dfarkas Posted April 27, 2007 Author Share #20 Posted April 27, 2007 It's possible to use only with C1? Thanks Ciao gmb I made the profile using C1 as a base, so I'm not sure how it will work in other programs. Try it out... what's the worst that can happen?
