rivi1969 Posted April 7, 2014 Share #1 Â Posted April 7, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello guys, Â After months of deliberating and leaving aside all the feature-aspects, I stop looking for a Fuji X100 and got myself a mint black X1 for $700 dlls, so I guess it was a sweet deal. ) I want to buy the Leica OVF and use it full time, so my question is which would be the best focus setting for the OVF? Â Any comments will be very appreciate, Kind regards, Â Ricardo

Kyros Moutsouris Posted April 7, 2014 Share #3 Â Posted April 7, 2014 Hello guys' date=' After months of deliberating and leaving aside all the feature-aspects, I stop looking for a Fuji X100 and got myself a mint black X1 for $700 dlls, so I guess it was a sweet deal. ) I want to buy the Leica OVF and use it full time, so my question is which would be the best focus setting for the OVF? If in autofocus select one point focus from the sub-menu then keep always your main subject in the center of you OVF. If in manual focus: step down to f5.6 and everything beyond 3m/10ft will be in focus. Enjoy you new toy!
wda Posted April 7, 2014 Share #4 Â Posted April 7, 2014 Ricardo, I use AF with the OVF with nearly 100% accuracy. Take a little time to practise on a range of targets. Once you start shooting at closer range, resort to the LCD for greater framing accuracy. But otherwise, it is possible to imagine the centre-point of the OVF with satisfying accuracy. Just practise on a regular basis! Â Just another thought. When using the OVF I find it possible to use longer shutter speeds as a result of the greater stability of holding the camera to my head, rather than at arm's length. rivi1969 Posted April 7, 2014 Author Share #5 Â Posted April 7, 2014 Thanks for your replies, 1 point will be, and the closer I get the more use the screen will be in use. Looking forward to experiment with the X1. Â Kind regards, Ricardo
jaapv Posted April 8, 2014 Share #6 Â Posted April 8, 2014 One thing - the OVF does not fit into the very handy leather holster-type case. A real omission.
wda Posted April 8, 2014 Share #7 Â Posted April 8, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) External OVFs make for a bulkier package but one worth paying for such a positive framing experience. My OVF almost lives on the camera which I carry or fit on my waist belt in a small Lowepro Apex weatherproof bag.
JOM51 Posted April 9, 2014 Share #8 Â Posted April 9, 2014 Another way to go is to use manual focusing, with hyperfocal distance, and focus lock. It works perfectly with OVF, I know from experience. Set your aperture to 8 or 11, set manual focus and align the green line from the focusing distance on the LCD so that the right hand of the green line is on infinity. With f11 the left side is about 1 and 1/2 meter. Everything from 1 1/2 to infinity is then sharp. By locking the focus you are then set.
MDCT Posted April 21, 2014 Share #9 Â Posted April 21, 2014 I use mine every day and set it in the menu. The camera just beeps and I shoot. The accuracy as fine I have shot thousands of frames with very few problems. I leave mine on the camera.
rivi1969 Posted April 21, 2014 Author Share #10  Posted April 21, 2014 One thing - the OVF does not fit into the very handy leather holster-type case. A real omission.  Jaap, yes I know that now, so I guess I would have to use a half-case instead of the nice holster. I found a nice black/red Ciesta on ebay; I would go for a Luigi´s but 100dlls more is too much!!  Regards, Ricardo
