jdsheepdog Posted April 24, 2014 Share #23 Posted April 24, 2014 To my complete surprise it turns out that I can actually go to MEL on the 3rd, and see my mother on the 4th and be back in Hobart early on the 5th without having to actually buy the whole damn aeroplane. Whoopee! So, my only question is ubi de inferno, is "Il Solito Posto?" At 1400? Correct? Looking forwards hugely to it! :D
baci Posted April 24, 2014 Author Share #24 Posted April 24, 2014 Sensational news! Looking forward to meeting you. Il Solito Posto is downstairs in a laneway - not super obvious but if you follow this map you should be fine: https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/Il+Solito+Posto+Pty+Ltd/@-37.8144141,144.9696835,17z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0xdb96df64dddd693 I'll PM you with my mobile number so you can call me if you're having difficulties. In the meantime I'll be working on ways of getting MarkP (and his collection of Leicas) to adopt me... See you on the 3rd! Michael

Sorry, sudden uncontrollable Sydney/Melbourne ancient antipathy surfacing unbidden and unwarranted.
baci Posted April 25, 2014 Author Share #28 Posted April 25, 2014 If it involves coffee in Melbourne it's usually on an unimaginably cold and windy footpath next to an unimaginably noisy road. But the coffee is at least drinkable! Oh dear, an escalation of Syd/Melb hostilities!! We may have to duke this out during the One Challenge!
erl Posted April 25, 2014 Share #29 Posted April 25, 2014 This could develop into an 'underground cult'.
MarkP Posted April 26, 2014 Share #30 Posted April 26, 2014 I have no antipathy towards those 'Mexicans' south of the border. Some of my best friends come from down there. I like visiting Melbourne - just don't want to live there. ;) By the way, Il Solito Posto is indoors and quiet and cosy, and most importantly does great coffee. erl Posted April 26, 2014 Share #31 Posted April 26, 2014 At least your taste in friends is impeccable. Your domicile might need further attention though.

Mark, I think it may go all the way back to John Batman, who paid something like six axes, some cloth, and a pair of scissors to the aboriginal owners for the site that Melbourne is on. The simple fact is we were robbed, he paid way too much. We should demand our axes and scissors back, and we should give Melbourne back.
erl Posted April 26, 2014 Share #33 Posted April 26, 2014 I'd happily 'give' my share of Melbourne back, provided someone compensated me for the improvements I have added!
adespen Posted April 26, 2014 Share #34 Posted April 26, 2014 I'm coming and bringing my daughter who is a Canon girl. I'm a bad dad for not buying her a Leica. Looking forward to one lens (50mm for me) and 36 shots challenge. I met some of you at the Thorsten breakfast.
MarkP Posted April 27, 2014 Share #35 Posted April 27, 2014 I'm coming and bringing my daughter who is a Canon girl. I'm a bad dad for not buying her a Leica. The worst. How old is your daughter? Mine is 16 years old and is coming down to Melbourne with me. I asked her if she wanted to join in using the D-Lux 4 but she thinks she may want to do something else for the afternoon.
