Leica CLA in Switzerland

They do repair on a lot of Leica products (not all, though), are friendly and quick but have Swiss prices.

You can bring in your stuff and pick it up after repair.

Indeed. Just bear in mind that they won't do the "tricky" ones themselves and will send them to the mother ship in Germany.

Leica Switzerland in Nidau/Biel offers outstanding service. They are the official Leica representative in Switzerlan and I'll have my Leica gear cla'd / repaired there rather than sending it to Solms any day. In urgent cases you can drop of your gear after making an appointment and visit Biel while it is being clad and calibrated. The technician Mr. W goes to great lengths explaining what needs to be done and why.

Hi guys,

First message on the forum! :) I'm thinking of making the move to a Leica system as I have found a Leica M8 for a good price.

Has anyone ever tried the CLA service in Nidau? I wanted to know their rates before I buy the M8, but for some reason they don't want to give me an estimate without seeing the camera. I know it depends on many things, but I just want to have a better idea of a typical price range for a camera showing no major issue.

Many thanks!

Welcome to the forum, Allodium!

I have no experience of Nidau to share but in case you're not already aware you need to make sure that the rear LCD on the M8 is sound (and also doesn't show 'coffee stain' effect) because if the LCD fails it is irreparable.:(

Pete.

Having sent my M8 to get a CLA and by the way being converted into an M8-up (equivalent to a M8-2) three years ago, I can say that the service quality corresponds to what is called "swiss type of quality" for swatches...:D. By the same way I requested to pass my M9 to became a M9-P two years ago. In these two cases, I was absolutely satisfied with Switzerland Leica in Nidau.

I will add my recommendation for Leica CH in Nidau. All my communications with them have been friendly and helpful. More importantly, their service on my M9 was excellent work. Of course the prices are Swiss. So are the salaries, the taxes and the VAT.

Hi y'all,

I'm just back from Nidau with my M8 in hand. For future reference, they charged me 258 chf for a Camera without any major issue. If you're smarter than me and read the quote before you accept it, you'll notice that they charge about 50 chf for some leathering work ("Belederung" in German). I don't know what this implies since I can't really see any difference on my camera, but you can probably avoid the extra fee if you let them know in advance.

Cheers!
